The next day, Hiraiah is preparing to go to the headquarters of the government faction, where her workplace is.
So it was Show-and-Tell day yesterday, how cute, Hiraiah thought. Sheena, a classic empath, must've thought Amaya cared for this annual event since it touches upon the subject of her "not being able" to make her own AI body. Pfft, Hiraiah snickered as she went on reading through the 10 black note books carefully. And as always, I'm right. Amaya dismissed making her own AI body because she put all her time, effort and resources in her own research---all under the faction's nose. She basically just went under them to freeload off of the resources they have, for 4 years and counting. Hiraiah chuckled as she reads the 8th notebook. Smartass woman.
In the original plot that 404 gave her, it is said that this is Mara's research, which she used to gain enough foothold in the faction, which basically equals to securing her position in Datu Black's team "unknowingly".
Hiraiah greatly doubts that, since exactly after 3 days Mara proposed her research to the higher ups in the faction and got it branded into her merits, it was announced to the whole faction---and on that same day was when Amaya "bullied" her, coincidentally in the hallway where Datu Black---who is on his way to get Mara to his team---is, as well as his office.
Bullied or confronted? Hiraiah knows it well that it is the latter. But why would Mara do something antagonistic if she's the main protagonist of this world? Technically speaking, it wouldn't even be in her nature to lie---that is, if she is really the real main protagonist.
Hiraiah coldly smiled as she finally finished carefully reading all of the contents inside the ten black notebooks. Each of them are too much even for her considerably high IQ brain, which goes to show that Amaya is your classic misunderstood genius. This woman have been progressing on her own like a beast for years and did not even bother telling anyone what she's doing. Hiraiah sweatdropped. This crazy scientist is eerily too much like her that she is now questioning whether there's something she did in the past that she didn't bother telling anyone in which she should've informed someone.
"404, where are you? Let me give you a beating. What is wrong with this world?" she reached out, scaring the said system who has been silently "upgrading".
Host, that's your problem. A clue, Mara is reborn---higher ups said that it is up to you what to do about it. Oh wait, look, I'm halfway done through the update. See you again sometime!
That blasted system! Hiraiah lowkey gritted her teeth in anger. Okay okay, calm down. Who am I? Hiraiah Minawari. A person who does what she wants, just like the original owner of this body. I'm going to make sure Mara doesn't even get a chance to set her foundation in this faction.
Smirking, Hiraiah fiddled with the notebooks, planning to drop them like a bomb in this world, one by one. As it is two years early before the actual plot starts, she is making sure Mara won't even have the chance to steal them from her---and more so, block all her chances of scamming everyone with her halo, which Hiraiah is sure to be not of her own. Something must've happened to the original Mara who held the true title of the main protagonist. As for the system who gives her nothing and lets her be clueless of the big picture, then so be it.
Letting her---well, Amaya's---jet black hair down, Hiraiah admired herself in the mirror. This girl got a naturally gorgeous wavy hair, why didn't she even bother to let it down beautifully? Haiya, I bet she thought it gets in the way. I do, too. But, pain is beauty I guess, she wistfully thought as she finally put her glasses on---this body has terrible eyesight---as she is now ready to take off.
First things first, Hiraiah thought to herself as she walked to her car. My resignation letter is so carefully written, they don't even deserve it.
To compensate the faction because I technically freeloaded for four years on research resources---nah, nevermind. I did my job on time, submitted all work on time, and saved the faction some money by not even building my own AI body. That's enough.
Hiraiah "happily" drove off, humming to herself with a usual poker face similar to how Amaya does it everyday. Having an almost similar temperament, Hiraiah doesn't really need to adjust what type of personality to use in this world, which is great.
Entering the building, Hiraiah scanned her ID to check in, which automatically clocks her time in. With the usual whispers buzzing around her especially now that she didn't attend Show-and-Tell day yesterday, Hiraiah felt more eager to quit and be an independent AI scientist under the Intergalactic AI Development Federation instead---the governing regulator of all AI factions in the whole universe---this way, no faction would bother her anymore.
Host? What do you mean resign? Quit? What about your main mission? Your number one mission? You have to get in---
"I can get in that confidential project led by Datu, regardless whether I am in the government faction or not. Trust me, I'm the one being put through this instead of enjoying my hard-earned billions back in my original world, no? So at the very least, I'm free to do whatever as long as I complete the missions, no?" Hiraiah coldly said to the system. "Don't dictate me. Even billions won't compensate the wasted life I will spend in every dimension. Just cooperate with me, and we'll both be happy. Am I clear, 404?"
The said system shivered, and felt pity for everyone who will be an obstacle for the host. Yes, host. Roger that, ma'am.
"Good. Now make yourself useful, because what is the use of you if you're just a parasite?"
Well, the system cleared its throat proudly. I can track the location and monitor any character in this universe, as long as they are significant to the original plot, or the changed plot that would occur due to your intervention.
"That's it?"
Uhm, well, I can alert you of any sort of danger as well as any character?
"And? What about skills, items, cheats?"
Ahem, I am not a magician. Another rule of the universe is that nothing comes out of thin air. Everything has an origin. I cannot give you cooking skills if you have none, nor the body you are currently possessing. I cannot give you items that would flash into thin air, nor could I give you cheats such as the ability to fly---unless it is an ability of the body you are in. I could only monitor, because I am a foreigner of every world and can only observe to provide information for my current host.
"Fine. Just say those behind this system-host and world hopping thingy are stingy beings. No need to explain,"
404 went silent and didn't even attempt to refute what she said.
"Anyways, monitor Mara for me. I want to know when would she steal Amaya's research."
Understood, host.
"Ms. Roan? Why are you in my office, is something the matter?" Cecil Lan, the head of Block C, asked her as she entered the room.
"Yes, Ms. Lan. Here," Hiraiah answered as she handed in her resignation letter. As this woman never gave her a hard time during her stay, she wouldn't say unnecessary things.
"I'm resigning, and I plan to tread on a different career path. Thank you for the four years I had in here, it was considerably...pleasant," Hiraiah remarked as Cecil goes through the letter. "Inside the envelope is the faction issued flash drive as well, where all the faction files are backed up and where the passcode to my work computer is written. Have a pleasant day, Ms. Lan," she said, not even giving the other a chance to say anything, now off to leave the office and go to her work pod to bring home all her stuff in there.
