I unwrapped my clothes that were neatly folded around the brown protective paper, my mind wandering far from the little room I slept in above my Uncle’s tea shop. All of yesterday I had been wandering Ba Sing Se, searching for the Avatar and his friends. But for some reason, now matter how hard I tried, I could not find them. So I just worked in my Uncle’s tea shop for the second half the day, once I had given up.
The clothing that now lay neatly on the bed was a beautiful fire nation and earth kingdom mixture. It had long, flowing features, much like the ones the people of the Earth kingdom wear, but it was orange and fiery red. It had gold and lime green embroiderment, like vines curling around eachother, making their way up along the side of the clothing.
A vest also lay beside the silk robes, white and sturdy, with gold branching from the middle outwards.
I put the clothes on, checking myself in the old mirror beside my door. I don’t look too horrifying. I mused. I combed my hair and walked out of my room.
I made my way down the stairs to where my Uncle was having his breakfast, the window open, letting a soft breeze in.
“Good morning, Uncle.”
“It is a very beautiful morning in deed.” Uncle replied.
I looked out of the window at the rising sun. The festival had already started, although not too long ago, the sounds and smells drifting into the dull room.
“Come on, Uncle. We should get going.” I urged the old man, who got up with a smile, his earth kingdom clothes shining in the light cast by the sun.
“Yes. Yes, we should.”
______
Toph, Aang, (later on Sokka and Suki joined us, too) and I spent the evening eating and laughing. We shared adventures, and told stories. It turns out that over the last few months Suki and Sokka had grown extremely close, and Toph had started an earthbending and metalbending school.
Toph had took us to her place - a nice little house painted white with green trims. She lived in the middle of the city, right about where the Ignis Festival was going to be.
I went to sleep earlier than everyone else, hoping that the night would bring peace. But instead, nightmares plagued me, and I was tossing and turning frantically all through the night.
Everyone left. Toph vanished, Sokka transformed into a hunk of meat and was thrown out, Suki turned into a gust of wind, and even Zuko, who had just walked in, turned into a turtle-duck and wadled out.
It was just Aang and Katara, in a cold, dark, black room.
A single light creaked above their heads, going back and forth, back and forth, ever so slowly.
A white plate was placed infront of Aang, and one was infront of Katara. Aang had his back turned to her, but she could imagine his smile and glowing eyes.
But when Aang turned his shaved head, his smile was too much for Katara. Her head was pounding as Aang leaned in slowly. Just before his lips could touch hers, the floor opened, and Katara fell through, down, down, down a black hole.
Faces of her friends and enemies flashed by Katara, but when she reached the bottom they all disapeared into whisps of smoke. Her eyes opened, and she looked straight into Aang's face. He was holding her. He was telling her that...
"Morning Katara. You look beautiful, as always!" Aang said with a cheerful smile, his face just above mine. I rubbed the sleep out of my eyes and stood up, confused by the dream I had. It was about me and Aang, so why did it scare me so much?
I shook the thoughts aside and plastered a fake smile on my face.
"We better get going then! Don't want to be late for the festival!" I told Aang, who nodded and walked out the door.
I got up and went over to where a brown package lay - my dress.
I sighed, somehow dreading going to the festival with Aang.
