I looked at the oncoming boats that were being oared our way. Could we just run them over? I didn't know how these pirate fights worked. I turned my head to see Ben looking down at me. "We need to get Jenna locked up somewhere," he said to Captain.
"Wait what? I'm not going to sit in a room and let you guys fight without me," I said crossing my arms. I am not leaving, I can fight just as well as anyone here. Well maybe not as good as Ben, but you know what I mean.
"Well I'm not going to let you get yourself killed," Ben said sternly. We were in the middle of staring each other down when Captain interrupted.
"I would love to stand here and listen to you guys fight, but we have our own fight to be gettin' too," Captain said drawing a sword from his belt. It was so well hidden before that I hadn't even noticed it. Ben was already running down the stairs to the main deck where pirates from the other ship were climbing aboard. I watched in horror as about 30 men started the climb up to the deck, outnumbering our measly 20 crew members. Not to mention the fact that these guys were actually trained and we were all just random people Captain had picked up.
We were going to lose and that's why I had to do something. Rational thinking, rational thinking, I thought to myself. Ok, if we can't out fight them, then what can we do? I needed to think fast though because the other pirates were climbing quickly.
My head screamed at me to think rationally and do something that I won't regret later, but my heart told me to go for it and fight. So what did I do? I picked up a sword and ran down the steps. I flung myself at the first man to make it on deck. To say the least he wasn't expecting a girl to fling herself at him so I guess I had the art of surprise when he fell off the deck and into the water of the cave.
With a battle cry I ran to the next guy. By now everyone was fighting along side me. I was in an intense sword fight with a burly man with a beard when some other guy tackled me to the ground. The breathe whooshed out of my lungs and I struggled for air. The guy who didn't look to be much older than eighteen straddled me and raised his sword ready to bring it down.
To his surprise I started laughing. Yes, laughing. And why you ask? I'm laughing because Ben was right behind him ready to kill. The man was lifted off me and basically chucked out of the boat. Ben grabbed my hand and lifted me up. "You ok?" he whispered in my ear.
"Yes," I said turning away and swinging my sword into the guy behind me. He crumpled to the ground. My first kill. I just killed a man. I breathed a long breath and let it out. I couldn't think about it. I turned around and surveyed the people around me.
Men were littered all around the deck, dead. I covered my mouth with my hand to suppress a scream when I saw a body that I recognized on the floor, bleeding.
It can't be him, it can't be him. I chanted in my head as I ran to the body laying on the wooden floor. His face was against the floor, but I would recognized that blonde mop of hair anywhere. Aiden.
It seemed the fighting around me stopped as I turned him over and saw what the source of blood was: his stomach. Blood dripped, no flowed, from a sword wound in the middle of his torso. I let our a cry of relief when I realized he was still breathing.
I pressed my shaking hands to the wound and tried to stop the blood from coming. I looked up to cry for help when I saw all the men were gone. It seemed they had just vanished in thin air. I saw Ben, Sydney, and all the other crew members. They were breathing hard, but other than a few cuts and bruises, they didn't seem too beaten up, except Aiden.
I called Sydney over to me and had her and some other crew members lift him and take him to a room to be stitched up.
I walked over to where Ben was standing on the main deck looking down to the boats that were retreating back to the pirate ship. "Why are they leaving?" I asked shakily.
"They got what they wanted, and now they're just bringing it back to their master. Like dogs," Ben said spitting blood into the dark water below.
"What are you talking about?" I asked hesitantly.
"They took Captain, that's why they retreated," Ben said frowning towards the ship.
They took Captain? I turned around, looking for the familiar hat that Captain always wore. I found it, but it wasn't attached to his body. "Why would they take him instead of just killing him on the spot?" I asked.
"I guess I should probably tell you the story," Ben said sighing, "Follow me," he led me over to his room where he sat on his bed and put his head in his hands. He patted a spot on the bed next to him, motioning me to sit next to him.
"The captain of the other ship, his name is Colby. Captain was a crew member on Colby's father's ship,"
"Wait, wait, wait, I'm confused."
"You would be confused. Uhh, ok I'll try to simplify it for your puny mind."
"Hey! Just go on," He winked at me and continued the story.
"Ok, so before Captain was the captain of this ship, he was a crew member on the ship of Colby's dad, Jacob. So Jacob was basically his boss, but Jacob wasn't a good captain, he would beat his crew members and work them hard, sometimes making sure they didn't get enough food for weeks. It was bad. Captain was sick and tired of the way Jacob was treating everyone so he did something very few men did back then. He fought Jacob for the position to be captain.
"The fight was really intense, but Captain ended up beating Jacob, and killing him. And guess who was there to watch the whole thing. His son, Colby. Colby and his crew have been looking for Captain for over ten years, and now Colby wants revenge,"
"Wow," was all I could say, "How did Colby get that scar on his face though?" I asked curiously.
"A few years ago, Colby and his men found us right before we were headed out for the Bermuda Triangle. We were docked at a pirate port and Colby found us. Let's just say Colby and I don't like each other," Ben said smirking.
"So you gave him that scar?" I asked dumbfounded.
"Yup, and I'm proud of it, he was so mad his "beautiful" face was damaged, he didn't see that we had escaped through his fingertips once again, but now that he found us, I'm not sure what's going to happen."
"We're going after Captain though right? We aren't just going to leave him there?" I asked.
"I don't know Jenna, Captain wouldn't want us going after him,"
"We have to try!"
"Ok, you have fun thinking of a plan, I have to go check on Aiden," he said grimacing.
"I thought you didn't like Aiden?" I asked looking at him.
"Well of course I don't, but I don't really want my brother to die."
