"I don't get it," Calx leaned up against the couch and stared up at the ceiling. "None of these parenting manuals have helped make sense of small human brain logic in the slightest." He sighed and ran his hand through his hair. This is a whole big waste of time. He frowned. Even if he did manage to become a good father and understand Klee, she would just end up back at the orphanage once the mission was over. What did it matter if he did a good job or not?

"I'll go complete my side mission while she is still sleeping." He grabbed his coat and muttered under his breath. Exiting his apartment complex he went to the cigarette stand by his home and rested his arm against the counter. An envelope was slammed down right next to him.

"Why exactly are you late?" Dainsleif asked.

"Is this it?" Calx picked up the envelope and glanced inside.

"You asked and I got it for you why are you asking me what it is," he frowned.

"You're a lifesaver, Dainy."

"Don't call me that."

"Okay, Dainy," Calx replied with a straight face as usual.

Dainsleif's eyebrow twiched with annoyance. "Are you giving up on your kid this early in the game? You don't think she can pass the test?"

"That small human thought bakeries were bacon stores. I have little hope in her ability to be intelligent."

"You're serious as always."

"Isn't that what you love about me, Dainy?"

"Before I die, I will stab you for each time you've called me that."

"I look forward to it, Dainy, it'll be a nice retirement present from you," Calx's lip curved ever so slightly into a grin.

...

"I thought living with a spy would be more fun," Klee face planted into her pillow and kicked her legs back and forth. "I want to disarm bombs and stuff," she huffed into the pillow. Klee jumped up off of the bed and ran to Calx's room. She opened the lock to his closet (courtesy of reading Calx's mind) and went through all of his spy gadgets.

"Oh! A spy radio!" Klee's eyes lit up as she pressed random buttons. She had no idea, obviously, that they were transmitting a message to various locations or that she was giving people a clear marker of where she (or rather, Calx) lived.

"That was boring," she sighed, plopping down on her back and staring up at the ceiling. Where was the excitement?

She heard the door open and ran to greet her new father- only to find that it was in fact someone she didn't know. This is where Calx lives? Face turning pale Klee ran out of the room to hide. Who is this little brat? She bumped into someone as she ran and was picked up by the hair.

"Let me go!" she screamed, swinging her feet and arms in the air only for her to get tied up.

"What's the deal with the kid?" one of the men asked.

"I don't know. She must be Calx's kid or something."

"Why does an agent have kids? Isn't that a bit risky?"

"Do I look like I'm a parent?" the other man rolled his eyes. "I don't know who Calx knocked up and quite honestly why do you care?"

"Because, Calx is a bit dreamy, don't you think?" the man blushed, holding his cheek and swooning over his image of what he thought Calx looked like.

It's a real-life bad guy. Klee stared at the two. Her hands were tied and her mouth was covered with tape. More bad guys walked into the apartment and wandered around.
