My heart starts racing more than it already has been.

The officer looks at Lexi who has been as stiff as a board this whole time, then at me while I give him innocent eyes, then at Miles, then at our hands.

His eyes start at Lexi again, "You know what, let me talk to you. You two, leave the room. I'll call you back in whenever she's done telling her part of the story."

My eyes grow wide as I turn to look at Lexi who gets a shade paler. My bouncing knee stops when Miles puts his hand over it. He nods his head towards the door and I try my best to rise on my shaky legs without falling.

Miles and I go to the living room and sit down while the cops talk about random things in the kitchen. I sit down and take a deep breath in, trying to not panic.

Lexi cant lie. She cant lie to save her life, mainly because she's a strong Christian who hates to sin. Even if she were to lie for me now, her face goes bright red when she lies and it's so obvious by her tone that she's lying.

I search quickly for the tv remote and focus on the first thing that comes on trying not to stress myself out.

I fidget with my hands while my knee bounces up and down.

I forget Miles is next to me until he says, "You watch golf?"

I shake my head, "I just need to focus on something other than this right now" I say cracking my fingers.

I feel his stare burning into my cheek, "Why are you so nervous? I watched everything you did last night. You're not going to get caught and that story was actually believable."

"Because Lexi is basically incapable of lying. It's easier for her to run 5 miles than lie" I say quickly, not even focusing on the golf anymore.

My head fills with thoughts about what could happen to me. I'm going to go to jail. Not just for a week or a month, for the rest of my life. I'm gonna lose everything and everyone. As much of a douchebag my brother is now, he's not going to have anywhere to live if I'm gone, anything to eat.

I feel my hands start to shake as I get lost in my own thoughts and my breathing shallow.

"Hey, none of that" Miles says as he presses his hand on my knee to stop it from bouncing again.

He turns his body towards me once he notices my discomfort, "Listen to me Elena, nothing is going to happen to you. I'm not going to let anything happen to you. You're going to wake up tomorrow in your bed after getting a good nights sleep and you're going to be happy and normal, you got that? You're going to be okay."

All my thoughts suddenly disappear when my eyes watch his thumb softly caress my knee.

And just like that, my hands stop shaking. Sure, my mind is still going about a million miles per hour but my potential panic attack just.. ended. Just like that.

He then takes his hand off my knee, ripping me out of my trance. I shake my head at myself, "It's Belle" I change the subject from that.

He keeps calling me by my middle name and all I can think of is the comfort it brings me at the reminder of my dad only ever calling me Elena.

He shrugs when I meet his eyes, "I like Elena better."

I stare at him for a second, his dark green eyes boring into mine. His eyes then move all over my face. They leave my eyes and touch my messy hair. Then my nose, then my lips.

As soon as his eyes meet mine again, I hear my bedroom door creek open.

I look over my shoulder and see Lexi walking out slowly with a blank expression. I get up from the couch and walk over to her. "What happened? What did you say? Are you alright?" I ask her all at once.
