Todays probably my least favorite day during the summer, Belly's birthday. It's the one day every single thing is about Belly, the one day the boys have to include her in everything, the one day Jere forgets about me.
Its been about a week since I fell asleep crying in Jeres arms. He never asked me about it and I was grateful, I couldn't bear telling him about it, it hurt enough knowing the things said came from Connie. Conrad and I haven't spoken since that night and I've tried me hardest to avoid him. Of course today of all days would be the one where I'm forced to see him for the majority of it.
I decide to stop dwelling on my sorrows and get out of bed and out in a simple pair of shorts and a dark green/blue shirt. I go downstairs to start helping the moms cook Belly's pancakes. Everyone's down in the kitchen except Belly when I get there, including Conrad. He looks up at me when I walk in and I avoid his gaze, I catch Jere staring suspiciously between the two of us as I walk towards the moms.
"Hey sweetie, we already finished up the pancakes," mom says side hugging me.
"Sorry I wasn't able to help, I was having trouble getting motivation." I say.
"Your fine, we had it under controls." She says smiling at me. I turn around when I see Belly walk around the corner.
"Happy birthday," I say pulling her into a hug.
"There's the birthday girl looking like a vision and floral."Susannah says hugging her next. "Happy birthday."
"Happy sweet 16 Bells." Jere says hugging her and I look down and walk away, I'm not sure if he noticed, but I could care less at this moment.
"Thanks everyone," she says smiling.
"Your pancakes are ready," mom tells her.
"I'm not really hungry."
"Ok, shall we open presents?" Susannah suggests.
"Ohh, your gonna love mine," Jere says as we make our way to the living room.
Mom had gotten Belly a book with the poem Susannah had made us memorize. Susannah got her a pearl necklace, Jere got her a goodluck charm, and Steven got her a Harvard hoodie. When it came time for Conrad to give Belly his present it became awkward. From as far as I heard Belly had t spoken to him since that night either, he seemed to be on the outs with us girls.
"Conrad do you wanna give Belly your present?" Susannah suggests.
"Sorry I forgot," he says and I see Belly's heart break.
