RayEmma Week—Day 6: Sweets
Highschool au
Ray glanced from the clock, ticking down to 8 AM, back to the empty desk beside his own. She's gonna be late again...
Clearing his throat, Mr. Lucas walked up to the front of the class with his signature I'm-really-trying-but-also-don't-want-to-be-here smile. "All right, happy Monday! Time to take attendance-"
"I'M NOT LATE DON'T WORRY," Emma shouted, kicking open the door and sprinting to her seat next to Ray in the back of the classroom. "Right..." Mr. Lucas didn't look convinced. "Well, back to attendance."
"For someone who wakes up so early, you sure are bad at getting here on time," Ray deadpanned with a raised eyebrow as Mr. Lucas began calling out names. "I get distracted!" Emma said to defend herself, pouting, a pink hue beginning to tint her face.
"Watching anime for hours on end doesn't count as 'getting distracted'."
"You little-"
Mr. Lucas turned back to the powerpoint presentation he had put up on the board earlier. "All right, open up your notebooks, we'll be going through the steps of RNA transcription today!"
All conversation was replaced with the sullen rustling of backpacks as students took out their biology notebooks, until Emma stood up. "Haha, I kinda... left my biology notebook in my locker... can I go and get it?" She apologetically asked.
Mr. Lucas sighed. "Yes, but the next time this happens you'll be getting detention, all right?"
"Thank you!" Emma shouted and sprinted out the classroom.
A few minutes went by of taking notes on science things—typical biology—until Emma came sprinting back in the classroom with her biology binder, and sat back down in her chair. A few moments later, she leaned toward Ray. "Ray, guess what?"
"I'm trying to pay attention, Emma," Ray growled, trying to return his focus to Mr. Lucas's presentation.
"Oh please, you can get perfect 100s on bio quizzes without taking notes. Now guess what happened!"
Emma's attempts at conversation were met with silence.
"Raaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay-"
Ray sighed. "What."
"Someone left candies for me in my locker!"
Ray paused for a second, before turning toward her. "What?
"Emma! Ray! Is there something you'd like to share with the class?" Mr. Lucas' voice rang out through the classroom.
"Frogs drink water by absorbing it through their skin-"
"That wasn't an invitation to give random frog facts, Emma," Mr. Lucas sighed. Ray leaned toward Emma and whispered, "We can continue this during next period."
Their next period teacher Mr. Green—or Mr. Gecko, as Emma and Ray called him; he walked like a lizard—was absent, so they sat in the corner of a staircase during their study hall instead of in the auditorium with the rest of their class. To be fair, it wasn't like anyone really cared where you went with your study hall—no one checked the sign-in sheets for each of the classes, so what was the point.
"Does Norman have a study hall this period?" Emma questioned, plopping down in the corner. Ray shook his head as he sat down beside her, taking a book out of his backpack.
After a few more moments, Emma cut right to the chase. "Okay so I opened my locker to get my biology binder, right? But inside there was a shocking sight!"
