"So, you're gay?" Luke asks, breaking the silence.
I nod my head and give a quick smile.
Luke looks at his father and then back to me.
"Dads bisexual, so maybe you two can go out sometime?"
"I'm sure Mika has better and other things to do," Alex says to Luke.
"I don't. I'd love to go out sometime with you," I tell Alex. He blushes a bit as he takes a drink of his water.
The rest of the lunch was a bit less awkward. I mostly listened to Alex and Luke argue back and forth about Luke's mother. I have never met the woman, but I already don't like her.
"So can I call you sometime?" Alex asks as we stand out front of the restaurant.
"Of course," I reply as we swap phones. "I'll hear from you soon?"
Alex nods, "I'll see you later."
And just like that he is gone again. I watch him walk out of view and then start to walk back to the hotel. I crash on the bed as soon as I get there. Of course I fell asleep thinking of him. I woke up to the sound of my phone ringing.
"Hello," I answer tiredly as I roll over and glance out the window. It's dark out. Great. I've slept the whole day away.
"Mika?" Alex asks. I could barely hear him from the loud music in the background.
"Alex? Where are you?" I ask as I sit up.
"At a club. You should come out," he says.
"I just woke up. I'm not sure if I'm in the mood to go out," I tell him.
"Whatever then," he replies before hanging up.
I sigh to myself and get out of bed. Before I know it showered, dressed, and waiting for a cab. Alex ended up texting me where he was just in case I changed my mind.
When I get to the club it's packed. I head straight to the bar to grab a drink. As I go to take a sip of my drink someone covers my eyes with their hands.
"Guess who..."
"Hmmm...a very sexy-drunk doctor?" I say.
Alex chuckles and removes his hands. He then takes a seat next to me. His hand goes right for my thigh. I remove his hand from me and turn to him.
"You're drunk Alex." I tell him.
He rolls his eyes, "so?"
"I shouldn't have came," I tell him as I tip the bartender and leave. I'm halfway down the street when he catches up with me.
"Stop Mika," he says as he grabs my hand and spins me around.
"Let go of me," I tell him as I pull my hand out of his tight grip.
"I'm sorry. I-I'm just...I don't know..." Alex says as he takes a seat on the curb. He drops his head into his hands and sighs.
I hesitate at first, but then sit next to him.
"I'm sorry Alex," I tell him.
"For what?" Alex asks.
"What is up with you Alex? You're different. This isn't the Alex I met earlier," I tell him as I turn him to face me.
He has tears running down his face. Pain is written all over his face. Hopefully it's not because of me.
"My kids hate me," he says.
"I'm sure they don't. Luke doesn't," I tell him.
"He doesn't, but the other two...their mother tells them lies. She's making them hate me. I don't know what to do," he cries.
I pull him into me.
"Drinking isn't going to solve it Alex. You know that."
He nods and relaxes into my embrace.
"Let's go back to my hotel. You can stay the night, okay?"
He nods again. I help him stand up and we walk silently back to my room.
