𝐉𝐎𝐀𝐍 𝐌𝐔𝐍𝐒𝐎𝐍 had goals in her life. Being a senior in high school, she was planning on going to film school and getting out of Hawkins. The dream was California. She was going to be like all of the other filmmakers. She wanted to be just like them, she wanted to see her art on the shining, silver screen. However, she did not want to leave Eddie alone. As much as she wanted to live her dream, she also wanted to make sure that her brother graduated high school. Unlike her, he was a slacker and she would never tell him to his face because she cared about him too much and was sure that Eddie did not want to hear something he was told millions of times. For now, the closest she was ever going to get to the silver screen was Family Video, a rental movie store in Hawkins, Indiana. It was a start, and with her knowledge of movies, she was glad to help.
𝐀𝐓 𝐓𝐇𝐄 𝐒𝐓𝐀𝐑𝐓 of him working at Family Video, Steve Harrington knew nothing about movies. Going to a couple of drive in movies with girls, he never actually paid attention to the movie. It usually started with him and the girl pulling in, getting a large bucket of popcorn to share, touching hands a couple of times in the bucket of popcorn, and then ditching. Steve and whoever he was seeing at the time would go to a makeout spot close to the drive in movie, hearing the echo of the movie that they could have been watching as he would kiss her gently in the backseat of his car. As much as Steve enjoyed his little flings, he wanted something real. Working at Family Video with Robin, they would gossip and talk, Steve attempting to get Joan to talk. However, his plan never worked. She would always talk to Robin more than him. Steve then developed a plan. He was going to get Joan to talk to him at some point, no matter how long it took.
