Chapter 54: Betrayal

Chaeyoung, Lisa and I were mirroring each other's expressions right now.

"Tae.... What's Jisoo saying?" Lisa asked, his voice shaky. He looked shocked as well as hurt. He didn't want to believe what was happening. Taehyung was his best friend.

The accused refused to meet any of our eyes. He pulled out his phone from the pocket of his hoodie and placed it in Jisoo's hand as demanded, his movements trembling.

The suspense was killing me, "TAEHYUNG! Look at us,
goddamnit." I snapped.

Jisoo took the phone, swiped a few times and then put the phone in his pocket. "Answer them, friend. What am
saying?" He tilted his head to the side. Hot piece of shit.

Taehyung looked around at the crowd, his face showing
discomfort. He needed privacy.

Lisa announced, "Party is over! Get going! If anyone even tries to mention what you saw on the screen, I assure you, I know l'm studying law, but I won't hesitate to kill you."

The crowd dispersed. Some girls gave me comforting hugs, offering me smiles and sweet words. I returned the gesture and thanked all of them. We waited till there was nobody but me, Chae , Lisa , Jisoo and Taehyung.

The silence hung around us like a bad odour, building up the suspense. The fact that Taehyung's face had lost its colour and he was wearing the expression of guilt, twisted my insides in betrayal. I cast a glance at Lisa and Chae and they both looked like they were on the verge of tearing up. I didn't know how long they had been friends but I knew how close they were. I knew they considered Taehyung to be a brother.

"Speak up." Jisoo demanded, his voice harsh enough to cut glass.

"-I..I.. "Taehyung  spoke in a voice that was so soft and low that I almost didn't hear him.

"SPEAK UP!" Jisoo's sudden yell made all of us jump slightly in surprise.

"I'M SORRY!" Taehyung sputtered out, his eyes finally meeting ours. Desperation leaked from his tone.

"Dude... No. Are you fucking kidding me?" Chaeyoung asked, exasperated. Betrayal shone in her eyes and I could see that she was blinking back tears.

"SHE USED ME!"

"DUH, NO SHIT! How could you allow it?" Chae yelled back, matching his volume.

I watched Taehyung closely. It looked like he was having an internal battle. Battle between what? Was he deciding
whether to tell us the truth or lie to us? It better not be the latter, or else my shoe was surely landing somewhere.

"Guys, please... Don't be mad at me.. I agree, I messed up-" Desperation was clear on his face.

"I want to know what was going on! Can l get a straight
fucking answer?!" Chae snapped.

"I loved her." He confessed after some time.

"How?" Lisa shrugged, frowning deeply. I stifled a laugh at that. This wasn't a humorous situation so I guess I should shut the hell up.

"Since the time l joined Uni. It was like... Love at first sight. I was head over heels in love with her. I didn't know how but l was blinded. I easily saw past each and every flaw she had. It hurt me every damn day when I realised that she actually had a thing for Jisoo. I had no hard feelings towards you, though. It wasn't your fault. It wasn't anybody's fault but mine. I chose to be the silent, distant lover and not fess up my feelings to her at the very beginning. She showed signs of being into me
too but all that changed when... You came into the picture." Taehyung looked at Jisoo, fear apparent in his eyes.

All of us were stunned into silence. So all these months....
All these months he was in love with her? All those times he laughed and joined in on the jokes we made about her were fake? He was pretending the whole time?
