"Dr. Williams, You have a visitor."
The voice pulls my attention from the Zebra that I am tending to, recognizing it as my assistant Richard. My head spins in the direction of his voice, seeing an all too familiar face walking into the enclosure from behind Richard.
"John! What a surprise." I exclaim, quickly wiping my hands on my shorts in an attempt to clean them, "How long has it been since I saw you last? Five, maybe six years?" The elderly man gives an endearing laugh, shaking my hand despite the filth still on it.
"Ah Lynette, my dear, you haven't changed one bit. How are my parks fairing?" John replies, taking a look around at the zebras that I had been working with moments ago. We had been close friends for many years now, helping him form some of the most successful wildlife preserves in the world. It really was an honor to work with such a driven and optimistic man.
"About the same since you called me this morning." I answered, "Speaking of, why are you down here? I heard you were starting a new venture a while back."
"That is precisely why. My investors are breathing down my neck to have professionals inspect it for them. I was hoping you would come along! I believe your insight would be most valuable." He exclaims while swinging his cane, of which I had never seen before, around to exaggerate his words. I chuckle to myself, watching in amusement.
"'Course! I would be happy to, as long as you trust Richard to watch all of the animals while I'm gone." I tell him. Giving a quick glance at Richard, who was struggling to get the Zebra's to listen to him. I shake my head a bit while John chuckles to himself. Richard had been my assistant for a little over 3 years now, and he always had a hard time bonding with the animals like I did. I didn't blame him. He was only part time. Comparatively, I poured my heart and soul into these animals every day, even on my days off.
"Oh, don't worry about him. It will only be for the weekend. He can tend to some animals for a couple of days. Can't you Richard?!" He shouts, startling Richard a bit. Before he can even give a reply, John continues "See, he'll be fine. Besides, you were always one for a bit of adventure, hmm? This will be one that you will never forget." I give an airy chuckle, thinking over his offer for a moment. Looking back at the elderly man, I give a wide smile.
"Looks like you give me no choice John."

The helicopter ride was incredible. Traveling from Kenya to near Costa Rica was quite a long trip. Not that I wasn't already use to them, having to travel to all of John's other attractions to take care of the animals, but this was one of the longest I had been on in quite a while. Unfortunately, John had a few other experts to gather before he could head to the island himself so I was headed to the island named Isla Nublar alone. Supposedly, I was going to arrive around the same time since I was much further away than any of the other people joining, so I wasn't worried about missing out on anything.
"Ma'am" I hear the pilot say to me, "The ride is going to get a little bumpy with the winds around the island. I recommend putting on your seatbelt." I do as I am told and click the seatbelt across my lap, then looking down at the luscious forest around us. Just then, I hear the sounds of another helicopters propellers getting closer. Looking up again, I notice a second helicopter to the right of us, which is also preparing to land. Suddenly a jerk of the helicopter shakes me into reality as we begin to land. The ride down is very unnerving as I am pulled back and forth from the twitchy movements, but soon enough we are safely on the ground. Even before I could get my seatbelt unclipped, the door next to me flung open revealing a glowing, elderly face.
"Enjoy the trip?" John asks, holding out a hand. I gratefully take it and jump to the ground. The heat and humidity from the island is a welcome feeling, reminding me much of home, as well as many of the wildlife preserves that I look after.
