Y/n's Pov:

The last few weeks went by in a blur. Everyday filled with little rest. Running in the morning that got longer every second day, quick breakfast, courses/drills/exercises, small snack, weapon control and practice, dinner, swimming and then finally 20 minutes of free time before lights out. It was hard work but everyone was filling out and getting better. George, Toby, Tommy and myself grew closer and even all got into the top half performance wise out of our unit.

We had one day left before we would be shipped out to the mainland to fight. And what a day it was...

———

The sun was beating down on our backs, five more push-ups, four, three, two and one... done. I quickly stand up, the first one to do so. Lieutenant Gold is quick to point at the newly reconstructed obstacle course, it was a to be the last test we would have to go through. The last unit warned us last night that it was longer and harder to complete than the others that we had to practice on, and we would have to have our gear and weapon on us.

I ran over and hurried to put on a pack and helmet, then grabbed a gun and set off on the course. Out of the corner of my eyes I noticed a couple others complete their set of 200 push-ups.

Gun in hand, I began scaling the rockwall. Pushing myself over it I slid down the double bars and then jumped over the muddy patch. Jumped over small walls and then pulled myself over a higher wall, ran the the rope climb and got to the top only to slide down the other side, my arms are starting to hurt at this point but i push myself to keep going. The next obstacle was a mud crawl under barbed wire after I go through a small tunnel. A few splinters from the wood got into my hands but never mind. I run across a river and make it to these monkey bar looking things.

As I make my way across someone catches up to me and tries to kick me off before making it past me. Looking ahead I see a very tall wall. He reached it before me and just as I get to the end of the monkey bars I see him struggling to get over it, using some quick thinking I pull myself up to stand on top of the bars and when I reach the end I run and jump on top of the wall before sliding down the other side a smirk on my face.

The rest of the course when on and on with all kinds off stuff i had to either jump over, climb over or crawl under. But in the end I finished first, by a long way might I add. As I catch my breath lieutenant Gold makes his way over to me.

"Congrats soldier, you're ready for war," he sticks his hand out for me to shake, I salute him first before shaking it with a small smile.

Even after a year of fighting in Europe most of the people I trained with were still alive, I suppose I was lucky to know people still alive. Next week those of us that are left are going to meet up with the 107th from America and head to Austria.

George had been injured in the first few months and got sent back to England when it was possible.

Tommy made it to 18, we were all surprised, and we celebrated it in secret before we went back fighting.

Toby became quieter, probably because of everything we've seen but he's still doing well. We also celebrated his 18th.

———

Toby and I crouched next to each other as we hid behind a mound of earth, the nazi's had some sort of high tech weapon that shot out blue beams. They severely burnt anyone the hit.

As we tried to shot them they shot and disintegrated our bullets, there was only one solution and some of us already realised that and were running. I shoved Toby ahead of me and he ran with Tommy. I Look  back to see how many were behind us and turn to run when a rock appeared and I tripped seeing black.

My head rang as I gain consciousness, groaning I sit up, regretting it immediately but push myself up. Surrounded by soldiers I tense until I see their uniform and notice we are on the same side, looking past them I notice we are in cells and there are other cells with more soldiers. Taking a second look at the others in this cell I take note that they aren't looking much better than I feel. We must all be in a similar situation. Although I must be the last up.

"You okay?" I turn to my head to the right to where i heard the New York accent.
