Ryan wasn't good at flirting, to say the least. He was pretty quiet. Never really said much. It's why people call him a 'mysterious loner.' Only like two people call him that, but still.
When he does try to flirt, it usually isn't picked up on. He tries, he really does, but it just never really lands. He's more subtle about it. Never outright says that a person is attractive. Never asks anyone out on a date or anything. Subtle.
And of course, he had to end up with a crush on (Y/N). (Y/N) was pretty much oblivious to any flirtation. From Ryan and anyone else. Things had to be pretty much spelled out for him.
Ryan wasn't shy, per se, but (Y/N) was. And pairing a shy person with someone who never really talks... One would think it would just be silence. But actually, they talked a lot. Ryan got (Y/N) to talk more than anyone else at the camp, and vice versa.
(Y/N) met up with Ryan under the lodge. The two usually talked and hung out there. It was away from everyone else, which was nice. No need to worry about other people.
Ryan was determined to get his feelings across today. It was going to be hard, though. He wasn't good at these sorts of things. "So, uh, camp is coming to an end soon."
"Yeah. I'm kinda bummed..." (Y/N) said. "But also glad. Talking with so many people each day is rough."
Ryan chuckled. "Tell me about it." He paused, thinking of what to say next. "Do you, uh, have any plans? After camp?"
(Y/N) shook his head. "Not really... I don't know if I want to go to school or work or whatever."
Ryan nodded. "Me too."
"I thought you wanted to go to animation school...?"
"Yeah, but... I told you about my sister. I don't know if I can leave her," Ryan told him.
"Oh, right. Sorry," (Y/N) replied. It was a tough situation. He wished he could help, but he didn't know how.
Ryan smiled softly. "You don't have to apolgize for that." He bit his lip. He had to make a move. He had to force himself to speak. "So, uh... I was thinking... After camp, maybe we could meet up. See a movie or... something, I don't know."
"Don't you live like two states away?" (Y/N) tilted his head to the side slightly.
"Yeah... Why?" Ryan asked.
"It's a long drive for a movie, no?" (Y/N) responded.
Ryan blinked slowly. Damn it. He forgot how damn blind (Y/N) was. "No- That's not the point."
"Oh. Sorry."
"It's.... It's okay," Ryan said, trying to think of a way to express what he meant.
"What's the point, then?"
Ryan sighed. He couldn't be subtle about this, could he? He had to just say it. "Its about... I don't know, seeing each other?"
"Oh! That makes sense," (Y/N) smiled. It made Ryan's stomach do flips when he saw his smile.
Ryan nodded. He didn't know where to go from here. "Like... a date, you know?"
(Y/N) was confused. "What do you mean...?" What did 'like a date' mean? As friends?
"I'm... I'm asking you out on a date," Ryan said, plain and simple.
"Oh, uh-" (Y/N) blushed. He finally understood what Ryan meant. "That... Would be nice." He looked at his feet, unable to look at Ryan.
Ryan could see how red (Y/N)'s face was. Finally, he knew that (Y/N) got what he was saying. "Cool."
"Yeah... cool."
Ryan could see (Y/N) shifting nervously. "You- You don't have to if you don't wan-"
"No!" (Y/N) cut him off, looking at him. "I do! I'm just... nervous, I guess."
Ryan smiled at him. "Me too."
"Really?"
"Yeah. It's a date. Everyone gets nervous for those, right?"
(Y/N) smiled back. Ryan always knew just what to say. "Yeah... I guess so."
"It doesn't have to be right away. Whenever you're free, you know." Ryan told him. They didn't live too far, but it was enough to make things difficult.
"I'm free right now," (Y/N) responded.
Ryan's eyes widened. "Right now...? Like... Right now?"
(Y/N) nodded. "Yeah, why not?"
Ryan was shocked. (Y/N) was usually hesitant about last minute plans and such. It was surprising that he had the initiative, not Ryan. "Alright. Let's go on a date, then."
