The Zombies of Georgia

Chapter 1

The Messiah Effect. It was an experiment that was suppose to bring the dead back to life. The problem was, is that they didn't come back the same. The dead came back as a brain hungry zombie.

Once the scientists saw what the experiment did, they tried to contain the zombie, but a security breech freed all of them. They ran around on a rampage looking for food. And once a human is bitten, they are instantly infected.

  My sister, Lacy, and I have been roaming around Georgia to see if we can find any uninfected, Unfortunately to no aval, so far.But we aren't going to quit looking.

Right now we are in Rome, Georgia.

  "Ava?" Lacy said

" What is it honey" I ask.

" Are we going to eat soon? I'm starving." She replied as her belly growls.

I smiled at her and nodded.

  We stopped at a Harvey's, I grabbed my gun and cigarette.

" Stay here" I told Lacy.

" But Ava-"

" Stay here Lacy" I interrupted.

She shot her puppy dog brown eyes at me, I just couldnt help it.

  " Fine come on" I said as I handed her a gun.

Lacy and I both knew how to use guns, because my father started us out young. He also taught me martial arts. He never got a chance to teach Lacy.

  My parents dies in a car accident almost a year ago, so I took guardianship of her. My dad taught me how to shoot a bullet and throw a punch as fast. And ever since the zombie out break, I have been using those skills to keep us alive. I only have one true mission. Protect Lacy.

  She was all I had. Before all of this I had friends and a boyfriend but I never went to find them. I was afraid of what I would see.

I deeply miss all of them, especially Calvin, my boyfriend. we dated for a year and a half before all of this happened.

  " What's for dinner?" asked Lacy snapping me out of my thoughts.

"I don't know yet. Lets see what they have." I replied.

We roamed around the store looking and our options were limited. We couldn't get anything that needed to be cooked for long periods of time, microwaved, called for milk and eggs, or needed to be refrigerated or frozen. At the moment all we see is Ramen noodles, candy bars, snack cakes, and canned food.

  " Oh, what I would do for a pizza right now." Lacy said with a frown. I gave her a sympathetic smile and grabbed a can of beans.

One perk to possibly being the only two people on earth was that everything was free.

  I put all of our items in a shopping cart and walked to the cash register.

  " How much will that be, sir?" I said to an invisible man, " On the house? How kind of you?"

Lacy and I looked at each other and laughed.

As we were walking out the door, a foul looking creature walked in front of us. He smelled like death and had flesh pealing from his bone... zombie.

I pushed Lacy behind me and grabbed my gun from the cart. I shot him right between the eyes, he instantly fell to the ground.

" That was close", said Lacy.

" No kind. Let's get out here before more show up" I replied.

We walk out to my truck to get ready to leave. It was our only source of travel since I was 16, my parents gave it to me for my birthday and it was the only thing I had left of them so I kept it. It was a navy green 67 Toyota four speed, and I absolutely love it. It has its issues but nothing major.

  But of course I had to rig it to fit our circumstances. I placed two assault rifles and two heavy duty machine guns, which is only used in serious situations. And that's only been a few times.

  We place our food items in the tool box in my truck, when Lacy dropped a can. She bent down to pick it up when... Riiippp.
  "Damnit", Lacy exclaimed as her pants tore at the thighs, " These were my last pair of jeans. Curse thaws thunder thighs!!"

  As I saw the torn pants I realized something.

  " I think its time to go shopping"

I release the parking brake and shifted into first gear. I knew I needed to go some where with gun supplies and cloths, we were running short on both. So the best place to go would be a mall, luckily I saw one a few miles back.

  We arrive at the mall and reminded myself to stay alert.

" Make sure to pay attention to your surrounding and keep your gun on you." I said.
