The next morning was even better. I was able to sleep in for the first time in a year, and the first time without a nightmare. I have never felt more safe.

Calvin awakes as I do, with a big stretch.

" Want some breakfast?" he asked with a smile. He got up and went downstairs. Then I started to think. I will never have to worry about anything ever again. Lacy and I will be perfectly safe here. But why did I feel it was to good to be true? Why did I feel like something bad was going to happen?

I finally got out of bed and went to meet Calvin downstairs. As I get to the bottom of the staircase, I see that Lacy was sitting at the bar and her back was to me. Calvin was laughing so hard that his head was kicked back. What did Lacy say that made him laugh so hard?

" Lacy said that we should keep our shenanigans on the down low, she could hear everything." Calvin said responding to my expression in between laughs.

Lacy turned around in the bar stool and cocked her eyebrow. Such a Lacy facial expression.

" Lacy, that's not what-" I tried to say.

"Ava, there is a one before that four." Lacy interrupted. " I know what it is."

I simply just sighed. She was right, she wasn't a kid anymore. It made me wonder if she even needed me at all.

Calvin sat a plate of pancakes with strawberries on top in front of Lacy and I. They were so good and I haven't had something to eat that amazing in such a long time.

" When you guys get done eating I have something to show you." Calvin said through a mouth full of food. " It's very important that you know and now that I think about it I'm even more glad you found me."

I immediately began to worry. Calvin is a very smart and courageous person, but sometimes he can be kind of rash.

When we finished our pancakes, Calvin took us to his shop, which was across the property. When we walked in I saw a huge capsule that was almost as big as my truck.

" What is that" I asked, very concerned.

" Its a bomb.." Calvin replied, sounds like he was ready for my reaction.

" Its a what now!!!!" I exclaimed, loudly. " What in the hell do you need a bomb for?"

I looked at Lacy and I could see she was very surprised because her doe eyes were as big as golf balls.

I could tell the idea of this scared her.

" I'm going to put it in the middle of America and then are going to get on a boat and sail off. When to a safe distance, I will set it off with this remote" Calvin said presenting the remote that would wipe out America and its populace.

I was beginning to feel dizzy by the idea of it, so I sat down.

" But what if there is living people out there?" I said to Calvin.

" From what I can tell from my radios there aren't any human life form out there besides us" He replied " The reason I'm doing this is to keep the effect from spreading. And once I set off the bomb, we are going to sail to surrounding continents to see if we can find any intelligent life."

I still didn't like the idea of it but it was starting to make sense. He was stopping the effect from spreading and lessening the chance of it wiping out the earth's population.

Calvin went on to tell me how he made the bomb, how far the nuclear power would spread, and the plan of action now that Lacy and I have came about. We set out for the middle of America, tomorrow. The bomb will be carried in a trailer that was made out of titanium metal.

We decided that we would be taking my truck, since it has all the required gear on it. And since it can be switched to four wheel drive, it would be easier to carry the trailer. The only bad part is.. only Lacy and I know how to drive a stick shift.

I wasn't going to try to teach Calvin how to drive it, because I like my transmission where it was.

So it was decided Lacy and I would take turns driving. It will be a three day trip.
