~ Chapter 3 ~

The Lunchroom Disaster

Ring Ring Ring! There was the bell for lunch. Thank the Lord! I was so hungry, I ran out the door of my Biology classroom and straight into the lunch room. I headed to the lunch lady to buy my lunch which consisted of a slice of cheese pizza, an apple, a bag of potato chips, and a water.

As I was walking to the table all my friends were at, I noticed the table right next to it sat a group of boys. Among all those boys I saw Niall, my Spanish tutor. Since when had Niall been in my lunch? I never noticed him before. What should I do? He's with all his friends, and it would be kind of awkward if I just walked up to him and started talking. I decided to sit at the table with my friends. I made sure to sit in a spot at the table where I could still see Niall.

"Hey Summer!" Your friend Jamey says, jumping in the seat to the right of me.

"Hey Jamey." You reply taking a bite of my pizza and opening my bag of chips. Jamey was my best friend, I've known her since kindergarten. I knew that I should probably tell her about how I got a Spanish tutor, about Niall, and how I thought I liked him, but I wasn't ready.

All the other girls at my table decided not to talk to me today, which is a good thing, because I wasn't really in the mood to talk or deal people right now. Also, I have some time to watch Niall.

I noticed that he seems to be the class clown. Everyone at his table would be quiet while he says something, and then they would all just crack up. That seemed like the type of person I would like to have as a boyfriend. Wait, what was I thinking? Niall would never like me that way. He's my Spanish tutor, and, he's older than me. We are just friends.

"Who do you keep looking at Summer?" Jamey asked me. "You keep looking over at that boys table. Do you like someone?" Jamey suddenly got all excited, like we would be able to have a chat together about this 'special someone.' Well that wasn't going to happen, so she better just forget it.

Anyway, I've been staring at Niall this whole time! How would I answer her question?

"Um, no. Haha, sorry, I was - uh - trying to see if - uh -they had any - any more pizza slices left."

Bad answer, I knew it was. "Oh." Jamey replies giving me a dirty look, turning away to talk to the other girls.

I continued to stare at Niall, and it seemed like forever until my eyes locked with his. He saw me, he knew I was in his lunch and I've been staring at him. I just smiled, trying to keep my cool, but I knew I couldn't. I could feel my face heating up like the fire on a cold winter's night. I knew my face was bright red right by now. I could feel my heart racing in my chest as if it was trying to hop right out and escape from the jail behind my ribs, just what I wanted to do at that one moment.

All Niall had done was mouth the word "hola", smile, and wink at me. He then just turned away and continued to talk with his friends.

"Why is your face all red? You are staring at that table of boys. You do like someone! You lied to me!" Jamey said, getting frustrated with me, right as the bell for next period rang.

"Have to get to class, can't be late." I said as quickly I threw away the remains of my lunch, and scurried through the crowds of students to get to Chemistry, my next class.
