~ Chapter 7 ~

An Unexpected Surprise

"Ugggg, it's so cold!" I screamed to the spine chilling wind. "Where is my mom, I'm not going to be waiting here all day." I said looking at the street to see if there was any sign of my mom. None. Zippo. Zero.

It was the dead of winter and I was waiting for my mom to pick me up from school. She was never late before, so, I'll admit, I was really worried, and a but frightened.

I went to sit on the steps leading to my school to wait. Taking out my phone, I texted Jamey, hoping she'd answer back, but, of course, she didn't.

"Why does my life have to be so difficult." I mumbled softly to myself as I kicked a pebble into the parking lot. I could feel a tear trickling down, what feels like, my frostbitten cheek.

I definitely missed my bus, it probably left, at least, thirty minutes ago, so there was nothing else I could do but wait.

As I took out my phone again to start a game of Angry Birds, I saw a beat-up, old looking Toyota minivan pull up in front of me. It was dark blue with dents and dirt everywhere. It looked as if it had just stepped out of the Great Dust Bowl. Frightened, I got up and walked slowly, with much caution, up the steps. My mom had always told me to run if a strange car pulled up in front of you, but I didn't run this time because on the other side of the window I saw a pair of familiar, ocean blue eyes. Niall's eyes. It was Niall. He got out of the car and walked up to me. I could see his mom in the drivers seat.

"You look cold babe." Niall said as he zipped my coat up a little and wrapped his warm black scarf he had been wearing around my neck. I didn't know what to do or say at this moment. It felt like God placed his mighty hand on the Earth to stop it from rotating.

"Thanks." I replied, stunned.

"You need a ride? It doesn't look like your mom is anywhere near here." I really wanted to get home, my fingers felt like they could just snap off like icicles and run away.

"Sure." I said as Niall took my hand in his and led me to the old beat-up car of his. Before I got into the car, Niall whispered into my ear, "I just want you to know that I love you." With this, he gave me a small peck on the cheek.
