Hi Everyone, it's been a while. I had gotten better and started to re-edit this chapter. It's a bit longer than the longer and I really enjoyed editing this chapter because it is one of my favorite episodes in season 3.
Today I had woken up with one side of my ear is blocked and it had been for the whole day. If it continues tomorrow then I will have to go to the doctor.
Sadly, there is one more chapter after this, anyways, enjoy reading chapter 8 - Cricket Match.
Mid-August 1920. It had been a little over a month since Emma had given birth, she had spent a lot of time with her newborn son and daughter whilst James doted on the twins. James had quickly given his son a nickname, Jamie, which he had been called by his mother when he was a child, since then everyone called the baby that nickname. Emma had seen how quick they had grown; they had been already a month old and Emma adored being a mother. Just a week ago, they had Jamie and Charlotte christened and Emma was wholeheartedly happy to have it done in the church where they got married, she watched as Travis poured trickles of holy water on children's forehead whilst Edith cradled her godson and Mary held her goddaughter protectively.
Emma and James had left the nursery room with the nanny coddling Charlotte as she started to get exhausted and Jamie was fast asleep in his crib. Emma remembered that it was nearly time for the annual cricket match between the House and Village, last she heard, Robert was trying to gather players for the House team, she recalled the disastrous match from the year before. When Robert had asked James if he could join in, James remarked he never played a game of cricket since he was a child at school, but Robert was insisting so James caved in.
Emma and James went over to the library where Cora was busying herself to embroidery for Jamie. She had made one for little Sybbie, then Charlotte and now the twins were a month old, Cora had been working on making something for Charlotte.
Robert was working at his desk when Cora asked, 'How are getting on with the cricket team?'
'We should be alright,' Robert replied. 'We've still got Thomas, thank god.'
Emma and James sat down next to Cora and held each other's hand.
'Won't he be leaving soon?' Edith asked, looking up from what she was writing a column.
Robert looked sharply at Edith and said, 'Not before the match if I've got anything to do with it.'
'One of the gardeners told Anna their team is in terrific shape.' Mary told Robert.
'It's so unfair the house staff play for the village.'
'Why don't you support the house and the village? You own both.' James suggested.
