Eddie was still a bit hung up on the fact that you liked someone. And a guy no less. Which meant that it was even closer to it being him. The universe was one sick fuck, that's for sure. He felt like his heart was starting to crack.
You weren't exactly in the greatest state of mind either. Eddie had seemed so upset when you had admitted you liked someone. Was it because he was worried that if you started going out with someone, then you and him would hang out less? Eddie was right about one thing, though. You two normally told each other everything. And that's how you knew he didn't feel the same. Because he would've let it slip during one of his drug induced ramblings. Or during one of his word-vomit embarrassment explanations. Eddie wasn't exactly the greatest at keeping secrets, which is how you had came to the conclusion that he didn't like you the way you liked him.
As the mixtape continued to play, Eddie tried to summon the courage to say something. At this point, he's pretty sure that confessing his undying love for you would be better than allowing this tension to keep going on. Actually, scratch that. That's stupid. But what's he supposed to do? He really needs to figure out the best way to interact with people because fuck this is starting to get annoying.
"So... what do you like about him?"
Seriously? That's what his brain came up with? God, he's probably going down in psychologists book about how not to break the tension between you and the love of your life.
You turned to look at him, feeling your stomach lurch when you catch his eyes.
"Well," you start. This really isn't going to be easy. "He's so sweet. Honestly, he's a little goofy when it comes to pretty much anything. But he also knows when he needs to be serious. He always looks out for me, I don't think there's ever been a time where he's let me down. He's got these adorable eyes, and they just light up when he gets excited about something. Y'know how they say the eyes are the window to the soul or some shit? Well, I didn't believe that until I met him. And when I look into his eyes, I practically see the universe."
By the time you've finished your rambling, you're blushing and smiling like an idiot. Eddie, however, feels as though he's been stabbed through the heart. You described whoever this guy is in such a whimsical way. You must be completely in love with this guy. He really wishes he could just go home now.
"Why won't you tell me his name?" Eddie asked after a pause. You grimace, not sure if you really want to get into this conversation again.
"It's because I don't want to ruin anything," you finally said. Eddie quirks an eyebrow to convey his confusion. You continue. "It's just, if I tell you who it is, then things aren't gonna be the same and I don't think that I can handle that."
"Why would things change though? It's not like this guy is out to kill me, right?" Please Eddie pleads in his mind. Just say who it is and rip the bandaid off. "Oh god, is it Steve? Gareth? Jeff? Toby? Billy? Cameron? Josh? Keith?" he continued to list names of random people in Hawkins, hoping that he would eventually land on the right one.
"Eddie! It's you, alright!" You finally yell, effectively shutting him up. "It's you. It's always been you. I'm hopelessly and desperately in love with you, Eddie."
You hung your head, quickly burying your face in your hands. Eddie, meanwhile, is in complete shock. He's pretty sure his heart is going to escape his chest, or maybe break a rib. He can't believe you like him back. Not just like him back, you love him back. He's never felt so excited and he's surprised with himself that he isn't jumping around the room and screaming. He takes note of your silence and realizes that you've taken his own silence as rejection.
He moves off the bed to lean down in front of you. He gently removed your hands from your face, bringing them down to be encased in his own. Your gaze remained downward.
