Steve didn't think he'd ever get used to having Eddie this close.
They were laying in Steve's bed together considering that his parents were away on a business trip all week. Eddie was tucked tightly into Steve's side, protected from all danger and everything bad in the world - exactly where Steve wanted him to be forevermore. Steve didn't know why he had ever thought Eddie could be anything other than sweet, caring and innocent.
Gently, he used the hand that was loosely around Eddie's waist and grazed his knuckles up and down Eddie's side where his shirt had slightly risen up (an old band t-shirt for some heavy metal band), feeling the smooth, unblemished skin.
Today was a rare occasion where Eddie didn't smell like smoke, weed or alcohol. He'd used Steve's shower the night before so he smelled like eucalyptus and vanilla, his luscious locks of curly brown hair had been shampooed and conditioned so it was soft and not tangled.
Using his other hand, he gently swiped his knuckles over Eddie's cheekbone, feeling the sharp bone beneath. The disadvantage of living in a trailer was that you couldn't eat decent meals, so Steve usually let him eat whatever he wanted whenever he came over.
Sometimes, when Eddie was still sleeping like this, Steve would reach out and just gently touch him, just to make sure it was real and that Eddie was actually laying beside him. Eddie his boyfriend.
If you'd have told Steve that when he broke up with Nancy, he'd be bisexual and dating a man, he'd have laughed in your face. If you'd have told him that said aforementioned man was Eddie 'The Freak' Munson, he would never have believed you in a million years. But now, he hated that moniker for Eddie. He wasn't a freak, he was just different in his own beautiful way.
"What'd I do to piss you off?" Eddie asked groggily from beside him, evidently having just woken up.
"Huh?" Steve asked him, snapping back to reality and out of his daydreaming state.
"I knew I'd mess this up. The best relationship I ever had and of course I fucked it up. I should've known when you were being distant after I woke up instead of-" Eddie spiralled as he sat up to perch on the edge of the bed. His self-sabotaging could sometimes descend into anxiety.
Steve was quick to follow him in sitting up and cut him off by gently taking his hands, Eddie's fingers devoid of their usual rings because of his shower the night before, and lacing their fingers together perfectly, as though they were meant to be together.
"Hey, hey. You didn't do anything wrong," Steve started, being greeted by Eddie's eyes, so wide and soulful and full of unending love, "I was just thinking, that's all. Thinking about how you didn't deserve to be labelled as a freak for so many years during high school and I'm sorry for the fact that I may have contributed to that. I'm sorry for joining in with calling you a freak. You aren't a freak, you're beautiful in your own unique way, and that's the best thing about you." Steve explained, stroking Eddie's hands with his thumbs.
"I know I don't tell you this nearly enough, but I love you. I love you so much, Eddie Munson." Steve said sincerely, nicely finishing off his little speech as Eddie's eyes had become glassy.
Eddie let go of one of Steve's hands to wipe away any tears that were threatening to fall. His tears weren't sad, they were happy. No one had ever said anything like that to him before. Except Steve of course, who showered him with an abundance of complements, love and affection every single day.
"I love you too, Steve Harrington." Eddie responded quietly, letting himself be vulnerable for once, feeling Steve gently wipe away a tear that was tracing his cheek.
"It will take a lot more than some stupid screw ups to get rid of me, Eddie." Steve whispered wholesomely as he tucked some of Eddie's wild hair behind his ear.
Eddie nodded in understanding and felt his heart beating so much faster with the thrum of love. He loved his boyfriend so much that it hurt sometimes, but he wouldn't run. Not this time. He would marry Steve Harrington one day.
Soon after, their lips met in a soft kiss, full of reassurance and comfort. Steve's hands found purchase on Eddie's waist and gently teased him closer with his fingers, meanwhile, Eddie had raised his hands up to Steve's jaw, feeling the light scruff from Steve not having shaved in a few months.
Gently, Steve pinned Eddie down on the bed, his hands gripping the t-shirt that the older man was wearing and made sure that he couldn't move. Not once did he break the kiss though, smiling widely the whole time.
He really was in love this time. And it definitely wasn't bullshit.

"I remember you liked Cinnamon Toast Crunch last time you had breakfast here. There's a box in the cabinet, have as much as you want. Is Nutella on toast okay?" Steve asked as they walked into the kitchen to make breakfast.
"That sounds good to me." Eddie responded with a smile as he retrieved the box of aforementioned cereal from the cabinet in which it was usually stored whilst Steve was simultaneously retrieving the Nutella from a different cabinet.
They made casual conversation as the different breakfast foods were made. Music was playing through the speaker so that there was no awkward silences and just because they both enjoyed music - despite the fact that they had starkly different music tastes.
When the toast was ready however, Steve decided that he wanted to continue what was started in the bedroom.
"Harrington, would you please move?" Eddie asked him, trying to flirt his way into getting Steve to move out of his way so he could make some coffee, much to Steve's chagrin.
Steve stood firm, Eddie tried to skirt around him but Steve wasn't having that. He decided to play on the offensive for the other side.
In one smooth movement, Steve pinned Eddie against the kitchen counter with his hips, pulling him into another kiss by his face. Eddie's hands slid from Steve's chest up to his neck. Slowly, almost in a taunting manner, causing Steve to smile into the kiss, which automatically made Eddie smile too. There was just something deep inside of Steve that continued to want Eddie so fucking much every single day, he just couldn't get enough of Eddie and just wanted to keep on kissing him until the day they died (preferably of old age).
"Ugh God, why is everyone kissing? First Mike and El, then Max and Lucas and now you two." Dustin's voice sounded, startling Steve slightly.
Steve quite quickly figured out that the child must've let himself in with the spare key under the plant pot outside the front door, usually the key that Eddie used.
"You know what, Henderson?" Steve started, turning around to lean on the island with a sickeningly sweet smile on his face, "You're just jealous because your girlfriend lives in Utah." Steve said, a deadly serious expression on his face.
"Steve, I do not like the person you've become since you found out that you're bisexual." Dustin said in fake annoyance as he huffed and took all his stuff with him out of Steve's house again, the front door closing with a dull slam.
"You so need better friends, Harrington." Eddie said from where he was now leaning against the kitchen counter, arms crossed over his chest and trying to contain his laughter.
"Yeah yeah, you're one to talk, Munson." Steve retaliated before silencing Eddie with another loving kiss.
Their breakfast long forgotten.
