I wake up the next morning, wedged between Tara, and Jesse, the events of the previous night a little foggy in my head, but I figure since we're all clothed, things were fine. I manage to free myself of the blanket, and people mess, and make my way to the bathroom. I do my business, and splash some cold water on my face, and fill up a bottle, with nice ice cold water.
I go downstairs and notice Rick, Eugene, Mike and Saul, sitting at the table. A familiar scent hits my nostrils. "Is that.... Coffee?"
They all nod, and somehow a cup ends up in front of me. I take a sip, and enjoy the bitter taste. "So what's the plan? We're leaving today right?"
"Yeah we are, hoping we can make it, by tonight, or early morning," Rick explains. "We'll load up the RV, with as many people, and food items as we can, and leave from there. Apparently Aaron is axious to get back, his scouting partner stayed behind because of an injury."
"Alright, cool. Whenever Jesse and, uh when Jesse wakes up, can you get him to feed Diesel, oh and by the way, we have a dog, his name's Diesel." I grab a can of chunk chicken and check the date, which I don't even know why I do, because I don't know the date. "I'm going on a walk, I'll be back soon."
I leave, breathing in the fresh air, I cock my gun, and ready a bolt into my python, just in case. I grab a rock and throw it. One walker comes out. Another one with a W carved into its forehead. I walk up to it and plunge my knife into it's head. The dead are getting weaker. It takes no where near as much effort to kill them as it used to. I pull my knife out, and push the body down, examining the pockets, I find a couple of bullets, so I stuff them in my bag.
I get up and continue walking, out to a forest. I love breathing in the fresh air and taking in the silence. I find a mossy patch to sit on, and open my chicken. The smell of salty meat pierces through the dewy smell. I pop a chunk in my mouth, and chew at the slightly rubbery texture. I remember at a time I'd always give Jesse shit for eating processed junk like this, but when it's all you have to live for, you learn to enjoy it. Although, some bread and mayo would be nice with it.
I close my eyes and remember when it all started.
I pull down a box of cereal from Jesse's counter after giving him a dirty look for laughing at me.
"You know, you're only five inches taller than me, you're short too." I say, flipping him off. "So after we eat, we're gonna go on that hunting trip right? I've already got the weapons and food and all that packed."
"Hell yeah, Badger and Skinny will be here in like..." There's a knock at the door. "I guess right now." Jesse opens the door and flashes me one of those awesome smiles. Of course it happens to be Badger and Skinny.
"Yo bitches, we brought breakfast." Skinny says tossing Jesse and I a bag. I pull it open and abandon my cereal for the bacon and eggs that I pull out. I dig into it, in a rush to start hanging out with my boys after going to Georgia. The only reason I came back was because Jesse was a risk to himself. But he got cleaned up, so hopefully he's good now.
My phone rings, I see the caller I'D is Mr. White.
"What do you want? I thought you were done with Jesse and I?" I say through gritted teeth.
"We need to get out of here, look I'm making some calls and we're all coming to your place, we need the RV. There are people eating each other in the streets." He seems panicked.
"Pfft," I laugh. " Right Mr. White like I'm gonna." He cuts me off.
"Turn on the TV Jessica."
I gesture to the TV and sure enough it's all emergency broadcasts, dead humans eating live humans. I stare in shock.
"You have an hour to get your people, bring weapons, and food, and whatever else would be helpful. If you're not here when we're ready, then we leave without you." I hang up the phone and turn to Jesse.
