I sit on the floor in front of the mirror in my new room

I sit on the floor in front of the mirror in my new room. I wish I could recognize the girl in front of me. I wish I could see the girl I wanted to be. Needed to be.

I graze the scar on my hip. Instead I see a girl who allowed herself to be abused. Who stayed in a relationship that hurt her, almost killed her, because she was blinded by what she thought was love. That wasn't love.

God, how did I get to this?

I closed the door to my dorm room. Whoever said freshman year was easy deserves a special spot in hell. I'm not sure anyone actually said that, but I'm just assuming at least one person thought it. My roommate, Riley, peered up from her textbook at my loud entry.

"Rough day?" She asked, her eyes were still scanning the words on the page.

"The roughest." I threw my bag down. "Is it too early to call it quits for this college thing?"

Riley let out a dry laugh, "It's only the first week, I think so."

Riley and I had just met last week when we moved into our freshman year dorm room. She was nice but I could tell we weren't going to be 'besties'.

She tucked a piece of her black hair behind her ear, only for it to fall right back out because her hair went down to her chin.

"I'm gonna run to get some coffee, you want anything?" I asked her. She simply shook her head no and with that, I was on my way out.

I walked into the coffee shop with my head buried in my phone. I was brought into the real world when I collided with something large. I was confused until this something large started to chuckle.

"Sorry, wasn't looking where I was going." I looked up to find the voice belonged to a very attractive guy. He had dark brown eyes and sandy brown hair that seemed to have natural highlights from the sun. He smiled down at me and my heart made itself known inside of my chest.

"Oh, no I was too invested in my phone." I pressed my lips together. "My bad."

His smile beamed down at me, "I'm Alex."

Wow, he was cute.

"Naomi." I muttered out. God I hoped I didn't sound as weird as I thought I did.

"Well, Naomi, can I buy you a coffee?" He asked, gesturing towards where you order. Yup, my heart just exploded.

Love. That's what I feel. It's like all of those gross romantic movies, where the girl runs into the guy at a coffee shop and they fall effortlessly in love.

Alex had asked me to be his girlfriend only weeks after meeting at the coffee shop and spending almost every minute with each other.
