Y/n POV
My parents parked the car and we got out. I quickly grabbed my bags and luggage and started running to Platform 9 3/4. I'm honestly not sure why we still use the Hogwarts Express. After all, it's a bit old fashioned but I suppose it's iconic. I basically grew up learning and hearing everything that I could about Hogwarts. My older brother was in his third year and both my parents had gone when they were younger. I had heard it was a glorious place and I couldn't wait!
I impatiently tapped my foot, waiting at the platform. Seconds later, my parents and big brother burst through the door just as the train pulls up.
"Finally! You sure took your sweet time!" I huff, puffing my cheeks out.
"Oh shut up." My brother, or a bother as I prefer to call him, rolls his eyes while pushing his cart. He had strange hair- half white and half black (I'm honestly not sure why he would choose to dye it like that) and wore his Slytherin robes already, despite the fact that we hadn't even gotten onto the train. His name? Gen Asagiri and he's the type of person to not let you forget his name once you know it.
"Oh, I'm sorry I'm bothering you, Mr. Oh-so-great-slytherin-mentalist." I mockingly bow.
"I believe she'll fit right it." My father says. Him and my mum share a look. "Another Slytherin?"
"Another Slytherin." She agrees. My mum had been a Ravenclaw and my dad was a Gryffindor so I'm not quite sure how my brother ended up in Slytherin. We're half-bloods, not that it matters all that much anymore, my dad being muggleborn and my mum was a pure blood.
The train doors open with a great whoosh and a puff of steam erupting from the top. I clamber on, tugging my luggage after me and following Gen.
He spins around, a curious expression on his face. "What are you doing?"
"Following you." I scoff. "Wasn't it obvious?"
"You are not sitting with me." Gen says and promptly slams the door shut to the compartment he was sitting in.
"Rude." I mumble. "I hope you get turned to stone or something."
I keep walking, unsure of what exactly I'm looking for, but I assume I'll know when I see it. Then I finally find a compartment with the door open so I peek in.
Inside sits a boy my age with hair that looks like a leek and defying gravity. He was dressed in what appeared to be a lab coat and was reading a book... on science. I'm not surprised. This was my best friend, Senku Ishigami and I'm honestly surprised he even showed up because he was a believer in science and barely believes that magic existed.
"Heyyy, can I sit here?" I ask, sliding into the seat next to Senku.
He checks his watch. "It took you 17.45 seconds to get here. Were you held up?"
"Just a bit." I shrug. It didn't really matter anymore. "What are you reading?"
"Just some light reading." Senku holds up the book so I can read the cover "Neurons, Protons, and Electrons: The Glue Of Our World."
"That's light reading?! Oh for Merlin's sake Senku, relax a bit!"
"It's illogical to speak like that you know. All the magic slang? Just speak normally. If you talk like that someone's bound to find out about magic." Senku says, while still reading.
"Fine, I'll try not to speak all magic talk. It's just natural for me, I grew up in a household of wizards! You didn't!"
I wasn't wrong. Senku came from a muggleborn family, just him and his dad. When Senku got his letter, his dad actually believed it before him. It took a little convincing from both me and Mr. Ishigami that it was real for Senku to finally believe it. We had almost always been neighbors with the Ishigamis, meaning that I'd become very knowledgeable about many different things in science. My favorite was chemistry or molecular gastronomy, though I wasn't particularly good at it.
"Sparkles, are you mentally monologuing again?" Senku says.
"Whaaat? Nooo..." I say, trailing out the words.
I think this will be a good year. As long as there's no Dark Lord or Chosen One nonsense but I had been assured that there wouldn't.
