Y/n Asagiri

Paper drapes down from the ceiling. Words magically scroll across them, characters shoved into every open inch of paper. I have to squint to read through the names, searching for my own. I find it amongst the group labelled "Kitsune Clan". It's a small group, smaller than the other ones, with only six of us, not including the student leader whose name isn't on the page. My name's at the top of the list, under the group name. Three names are ones I recognize: Senku Ishigami, Taiju Oki, and Yuzuriha Ogawa, all old friends from back home. Thank goodness, I won't be alone in my clan. The other two names I don't know. Chrome Fox and Isa King.

The wall opens into doors with our group names above it. I push through the Kitsune door, closely followed by Senku. I expect the rooms to be normal, like back home, but it's not. My breath catches once I get through the doorway.

It opens into a main room, tall ceiling with wood beams, lanterns hung along the walls. The ground looks like grass but feels like soft wool. A window pans out, taking up the space of one wall, the vast landscape spread around us. The sunrise pinpricks through the sky, inching over the hilltops, and I can't believe it's already been a whole night because it feels like only an hour's passed. The towers of Kurayami are all around us and now I can see little floating houses that I couldn't see from outside also deck the sky. There are four doors around us, two of which are labelled with names. Three to a room. The one behind me is probably the exit and the one beside it is marked as student leader.

A strangely familiar clap comes from behind me. "Welcome to the Kitsune Clan!" I turn, only to be met with Gen's grinning face.

I groan, planting my hand over my face. "Great. You're our student leader?"

"Technically, I'm the clan leader. But yes." Gen's obnoxious smile doesn't go away.

"Now why don't we go around and introduce ourselves? Say your name and a fun fact about you." His sickening cheeriness is getting on my nerves.

"What is this, summer camp?" Senku mutters under his breath. I mentally agree.

Gen glares at the two of us before sinking back into his camp counselor vibe. "I'll start. I'm Gen Asagiri, and I'm studying to be an Arcane Doctor." I blink. I didn't know that. Honestly, I didn't think he had enough creditable or brainpower to do that. Arcane Doctors are incredibly important in society.

"I'll go next!" Taiju exclaims. Of course he's excited. He's been ready for this day ever since I told them stories of here. "I'm Taiju and I can't wait to get to know you all!"

"I'm Yuzuriha Ogawa. I like to do crafting things and sewing." Yuzuriha's voice comes across as a little shy and bashful, her grin just as wide as Taiju's. She was excited too.

Senku picks his ear, a bored expression on his face. "I'm Senku Ishigami and I'm a scientist." It's a funny sort of thing for him to say, given that this is a school of Arcane, of magic, the opposite of science. I know he's trying to be cool but I saw the smirk on his face during orientation, the same sort of smirk that he gets whenever he finds something exhilarating.

Now someone I don't know speaks. He's got brown hair, all spiked up, dark blue clothes sort of wrinkled. His skin is littered with spots of dirt, and there's a gleam in his coffee brown eyes. "I'm Chrome Fox! I don't know much about magic, but I'm ready to learn!" Just from that he reminds me of Senku, just more vocal about what he thinks.

"My name's Isa King. I'm from the United States." Her Japanese is a little fumbly, but still good for a foreigner. Her hair is dyed a bright red, tied up into a bun, eyes a bright green apple color. Freckles dot her tan skin and she's wearing a black hoodie and sweats.

Now it's my turn. I should have been thinking about what I should say, but I guess I'll wing it. "I'm Y/n Asagiri." I can't think of what to say next so I just say whatever comes out of my mouth. "I have Unclaimed Arcana." My words are met with dropped jaws from those who know what I mean and Gen facepalming. Shit.

Word Count: 757
Author's Note: Bro I literally had to write out all the different Arcana on a word doc so I could keep track of it. I do like the magic system though, it was really fun coming up with all the different Arcana. After all of them are introduced story wise, I'll put them all here. I won't tell you who has what though, at least not until the story says! Don't judge me for making the main characters the Kitsune Clan, Kitsunes are cool. Next chapter is the first day of class, told from Senku's point of view!
