Millions of decades ago, in the time of the Ancient One's training, when she still went by Heng, Eirwen had been her best friend and greatest competition. They pushed each other down the right path when all seemed to go south, making a promise. Never to let the Dark Side consume them, never take power from them.
Following their Master's death, someone had to take the place of the Sorcerer Supreme. But Mara had her own plans that didn't follow the traditional ways.
So Eirwen had to go, and down she went, becoming a 'literal' Ice Sorcerer.
