A/N. Before we get started, I have a funny story to tell. This story almost didn't happen. So, for the past 2 weeks, I have been in Florida, visiting my grandparents. Before we left, I started writing this story, and completed the first chapter. Now, I brought my laptop so I could write offline at the house. Since I was offline, anything I wrote saved to the computer and not the google drive. So, I complete the story the day before we leave, and I'm all set. I get to the hotel last night, and they have WiFi, so I'm like, "Cool, I'll back up the document to the drive. I open the document and it says 'error, please reload'. I'm like, "Alright", so I do, and when it reloads, everything besides what I had written before I left was GONE! 18K+ words, gone. I just sit there. For twenty minutes afterwards, I am furiously trying to get it back, before giving up. I announce on the Perlia discord server that I lost the document (Because I had teased them with a snippet of the second to last chapter) And as soon as I message them, the doc reloads on its own, and everything's back, making me look like the stupidest fucking idiot. Everything was backed up to the drive, and all the work was there. The weight that lifted off of my shoulders the second I saw the small scroll wheel, you can't comprehend. So yeah, I almost lost this entire stpry, and I'm going to tell you, I was NOT going to rewrite it.
But yeah, enough of me rambling, enjoy!
Chapter One
713 A.D.
"Jack!" Aesir yelled. He pounded on the door.
The door swung open. Standing in the doorway was a black haired man with an absolutely phenomenal beard. He had eyes the color of the sea. "What is it, Aesir?"
"Eydis. She spotted a massive group of demons, gathering in the west forest. They are preparing for a siege!"
Jack grunted. "Come inside." He said, turning and walking into his house. The inside of the house was well furnished. It felt lived in, homely. Lying on the couch was Jack's wife, Dagny. She was holding their son, Destin.
"Have you met my son, Aesir?" He asked his friend.
"No, I have not."
"His name is Destin."
"That is the Jackson?"
"Indeed. Look at him, sleeping peacefully. And now, his sleep will be disturbed."
"What are you saying, Jack?"
"The demons are here, and they will slaughter us." Jack sighed. "But we will fight, for Odin does not allow cowards into Valhalla. We will fight, and we will die in glorious battle, with our weapons in our hands! But we will not fight for only ourselves, but for the ones we love! Our wives, our husbands! Our sons and our daughters! We will fight to spend our afterlife in Valhalla, but we will also fight for them."
He drew his sword from off the wall. "Gather the townspeople, we must fight bravely."
Aesir smiled. "To Valhalla."
"To Valhalla."
Aesir rushed out of the house, yelling to gather the townspeople. Jack turned to his wife. "You must leave."
Dagny placed Destin on the couch and stood up. "No. I will fight."
"No. You must take Dustin and leave this place."
"Odin does not allow cowards into Valhalla!" She quoted him.
"You are no coward. You, you are the bravest of us all. You will take Destin, and continue Frostheim, leading us into the future! And that, Odin can not call cowardness."
