06: golden or broken boy?

the day sunghoon met jake, his life was complete. if he hadn't met jake, he would probably be in that same position as when he was younger. jake saved him. and that was enough for him to fall for jake. 

jake and sunghoon retrieve back to jake's house. the walk is silent, no mentions of the hug minutes ago. remembering it's still snowing, they both wore their scarfs, covering themselves with it. it's december, and both can't get be more excited for the holidays. 

"are you planning on going somewhere for the holidays?" jake breaks the silence. 

"yeah...my parents are planning to go see my sister in japan...so, i also have to go with them." sunghoon declares, sounding disappointed. 

jake notices as well, but, keeps it to himself. "oh...i'm sure we'll find a way to hangout sometime! even if it's just for a day." jake flashes him a warm smile. sunghoon's heart skips a beat. 

"yeah, of course, dummy. i can't go back to school without hanging out with you even for a day." sunghoon comments, like it's no big deal. but, for jake it's much of a deal. not in a bad way, but like a good flustered way. he hates it how easily sunghoon can make him blush and be all over the place. 

"s-so," jake toys again, deciding not to give up on starting a conversation, trying not to make it sound awkward. 

and so the two walk home with, a flustered jake trying to make a conversation without stuttering. sunghoon reacts to everything jake does, but keeps it lightly. he knows how he makes jake uncomfortable so he tries not to show too much affection from him.

when the two walk in jake's house, they're greeted by jake's mom. causing jake to flinch. "o-oh, hey mom!" jake trys not to sound too surprised. 

"sunghoon! it's so great to see you! gosh, you've grown. how long as it been??" mrs. sim questions, side-hugs sunghoon before taking a good luck in him. 

"it's good to see you too, mrs. sim," sunghoon gives a small bow. 

"gosh, it must've been like—five years?!" jake's mom glances over at jake, her eyes saying something like, why-haven't-you-bring-sunghoon-here? jake doesn't react to her. just stays glaring at her, waiting for her to finish. She chuckles at her son's reaction. "alright, i'll leave you two at it. jake's about to throw hands." she smiles. 

jake quickly argues back, "n-no! stop l-lying!" he flushes pink. 

before he could even deny it more, his mother already left the kitchen. jake sighs in frustration. "c'mon," jake whispers as he takes sunghoon's sleeve and drags him away to up stairs. lucky for him, his siblings are away with a friend's house, playing games and having fun. 

jake closes his door and gets his videogames out. "here! found it!" jake exclaims, excitedly opening the videogame. sunghoon watches in 'aw.'

when they start to play, jake could literally feel the atmosphere drop, it's getting on his nerves. he's had enough and looks over at his friend. "i don't like this." jake blurts out, lips pursed. 

"i'm sorry." sunghoon randomly says, catching jake's full attention. "it's my fault, isn't it? the whole confession thing. i made it worse...i'm sorry, i thought i'd tell you because i've kept it so lomg, and i thought it was time for me to just...think it's for the best for me to let go of them? i—" sunghoon didn't finish his sentence as jake stopped him, grabbing him by his collar and pulling him closer. 

"don't you dare say that! don't say anything like that, you hear me!? you talk about all of these angsty feelings, but, did you ever stop to think about mine?! i mean, sure people are selfish and sometimes they don't want to think of the feelings of others, but, you dump me with all of these confessions and you think i'd stay put??! you think i'll just forget you ever told me?! we'll just go back to being friends after that?!" jake pauses, breathing heavenly. "sunghoon, i like being with you. and, i don't ever want it to end. so, please, tell me this isn't just a phrase. i don't want to make any mistakes or regrets." jake finishes off, staring deeply into sunghoon's eyes with plead.
