"Mommy, why does daddy always yell at you all the time when he gets home at night?"

Robyn tucked her children, Mariah and Cinco in for bedtime as they talked.

"I don't know baby girl." She sniffed and felt tears begin to flood her eyes. "I'm sorry that you have to hear that, but your daddy is just always stressed after work. He gets home late and I'm sure that's why."

"Are you guys going to get a divorce?" Cinco asked from the other side of the room with anxiety exuding through his voice.

"Cinco, where did you hear that word from?"

"Daddy screams it all the time."

"Your daddy loves you both very much and you know I love you more than the entire world."

"Does daddy love you?" Mariah asked cuddling her stuffed bear.

Her mother looked down as the tears began to fall from her eyes.

"I'm sorry mommy, don't cry. I love you."

"I love you too my babies, goodnight."

She stood up from the bed and turned off the light on the way out of the room and shut the door behind her.

About an hour later, the arguing began which woke Mariah up. She pulled her stuffed bear closer to her chest, nervously. She got up and went to Cinco's side of the room.

"Cinco, wake up."

"You're drunk Jermaine, please. If you really don't want to stay here, go to that girls house you've been sleeping with. Our kids are trying to sleep for school tomorrow!"

"Bitch, if I wanted to, I'd bring that bitch up in MY house whenever and kick your ass out, do you hear me? After I leave you, no nigga will want your washed up ass, bitch. Get the fuck out my face!"

Out of anger and pure humiliation, she slapped him with tears falling down her face. That only caused him to spew into a rage different than she'd ever seen or experienced. He started beating her excessively and kicking her.

They both ran out of their room crying and screaming.

"Stop hurting mommy! Mommy!" Cinco yelled.

He tried to kick his father, then he pushed him onto the ground.

Mariah ran to grab a house phone to call 911.

"Hello? 911! My daddy is hurting my momma, please hurry and come please! Mommy! You'll be okay, they're coming okay?"

By the time Mariah was giving the address to the dispatcher, a gunshot erupted and there was her mom drowning in her own blood.

"MOMMY!" They both screamed, crying.

Another gunshot erupted and hit Cinco when Cinco tried running up to their mother.

Their father ran out of the house and Mariah froze in fear that took over her body.

She stood in the same spot, in complete shock, till the police arrived and picked her up from where she stood.

That night was the last Mariah would ever see her mother, brother, and her father.

The sound of the alarm rang in her ear, startling her awake suddenly. It's like she always knew it going to ring because of course, she was the one that set it for school, but the sound of it was just so triggering. Mariah sluggishly got out of bed, dragging her feet on the way to the bathroom. The days felt so repetitive, so overwhelming, with the same depressing feeling.
