The next morning, Mariah woke up to arguing from down the hall instead of her own alarm today. She rolled her eyes and got out of bed. She pulled her hair up into a bun then put on her robe.
Mariah checked her phone and saw that she'd received a text from Taurus. "Where do you stay? I'm coming to pick you up, it's snowing out."
"Good morning to you too," she texted back. Before responding, she peaked out of the window and saw that it was indeed snowing, the roads were starting to cover. She hated feeling like she had to rely on someone, but today was not a day for walking. "11817 Cherry Hill Ave. Tell me how far you is from me first," she responded.
"You literally five minutes, look," he sent a screenshot of his location. "Right up the street."
"Alright, I'll be ready in like thirty minutes." She placed her phone on the counter then went to her bathroom to take a quick shower.
Mariah went in her closet and grabbed a black long sleeve turtle-neck jumpsuit paired with brown puffer boots and a brown scarf.
Taurus had texted her that he'd arrived, so she quickly went to grab some orange juice out of the fridge before heading out through the front door. He had got out of the car to open the door for her.
"You look good," he said to her, again, sizing her up.
"So do you," she smirked as she entered the car.
He smiled to himself as he shut the door for her and got back into the car before driving off.
"Thank you for picking me up, I appreciate it." Mariah looked over at Taurus while blushing.
"Maybe now you'll feel less guilty about me picking you up or dropping you off," he glanced over at her.
"He looks so good right now..." Mariah thought while staring at him. "Look, I just don't want nobody giving me a handouts or thinking they have to always help me." she responded.
"I know that feeling, but I ain't tryna do that. I'm just looking out, sometimes people need that. I wish I had that at times when I needed it," he said.
"Well you won't have to worry about giving me rides, I'm car searching right now and working like thirty-two hours a week and doing hair on the side. This wasn't what I was really saving up for, but fuck it. I ain't even looking for nothing fancy, just something to hold me up until I really make it." She explained.
"Until you make it? What'chu wanna do?" He asked her.
"I mean these days girls are doing good for themselves having they own shit going on. Me doing hair for both the girls and y'all niggas, I can work as much as I want and gain the right following and work my way up." She smiled as she looked straight ahead out the window. She got excited thinking about her future and what she can make of it. Mariah always had high hopes for herself despite all the difficulties she's had up to this point.
"I like that you have a plan for yourself and I like seeing you smile thinking about it, shows a lot."
"What about you? What's your goal?" Mariah asked him.
"I ain't tryna sound like the typical nigga tryna make it out with they music, but that's what I'm tryna do. I been trusting the process and it's been going good as fuck lately. I want this shit to work. I want my girl by my side when it do happen." He said.
"What's your girl name?"
"I don't got one, I'm just speaking for when I do." He laughed a bit.
They both looked over at each other then rode in silence the rest of the way to school.
