Sandra POV
A year had passed since Dr. Anderson had denied my request to join his research team it was a crushing blow.I had graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from Xavier University and a career in science was my dream.
Dr. Anderson had given me a measly one-star rating but at least I hadn't been fired... Yet then my phone buzzed it was Dr. Anderson.
Message Read:
Dr. Anderson: I'm sorry, but you won't be joining the research team. I'm assigning you to Q.P.D for now.
I rolled my eyes seriously? I had no choice but to accept this was the only job available.
Me: Okay Dr. Anderson, I'm on my way now.
I typed back my frustrated simmering I packed my meager belongings into two boxes and headed to the Quezon Police Department.
My heart sank as I walked through the door the entire room fell silent everyone staring at me, I knew what they were thinking.
"Hey, what are you doing here?" One officer approached a sneer twisting his face.
"Why don't you call Dr. Anderson? Then you'll know" I countered, crossing my arms and leaning against a table.
"Oops, you got busted, Nathan" someone snickered.
The room erupted in laughter they started dialing Dr. Anderson's number I ignored them grabbing my boxes and trudging towards my new desk.
I reached for my phone but it wasn't in my pocket I turned to see a woman standing behind me holding my phone and a smirk playing on her lips she looked Korean.
"This is what you're looking for, right?" She asked.
"Thank you, can you help me find my desk?" I said, feeling a little flustered.
"Sure" she said, a warm smile on her face.
She then grabbed my boxes and placed them on the desk next to hers.
"Welcome to the team" she said.
I settled into my new chair determined to make the best of the situation.
"By the way, I'm Drake Steele Kennedy. From Raccoon City" said a voice behind me.
Drake looked Filipino not American.
"Nice to meet you Ake. Oops sorry..." I began.
"No, it's okay. I like that besides you're the first person to call me by my new nickname" he interrupted, a grin spreading across his face.
I looked over at the Korean woman her gaze locked on Drake her name tag read 'Kim Yoo-mi'.
"Why don't you give him a chance? He can't take his eyes off you" I teased.
"So, you're a scientist huh?" She turned to me, her face a mask of annoyance.
"Used to be. Not anymore" I chuckled.
"Why? I mean, you have a Bachelor of Science in Biology, right?" I nodded, a hint of sadness in my eyes.
"Dr. Anderson assigned me here instead of the research team" I said, my voice laced with disappointment.
Just then the officer from earlier walked over his face filled with disdain.
"I hate working with lowkey bitches" he whispered to me.
"Me too, you fucking moron" I muttered under my breath.
"Don't mind him" Kim Yoo-mi sensed the tension she said to me.
Giving me a reassuring smiled.
After a few minutes later on she turn to the group her eyes sparkling with curiosity.
"What would be the worst thing to happen? To be eaten by a Licker or to be eaten by a zombie?"
"I don't know, maybe I'm the worst one to be eaten by both" I shrugged.
"I'd choose to be eaten by the zombies" a deep voice cut through the conversation.
We all turned to see a handsome man with a perfect physique.
"Hearing your voice is so fucking worst, Alvin" Drake burst out laughing.
"Wait, your name is Alvin?" I frowned.
The handsome man Alvin shot Drake a withering glare and flipped him off they all turned to me while their expressions a mix of curiosity and amusement.
Alvin the handsome man with a perfect physique flicked his middle finger at Drake with a nonchalant smirk.
"What did you say?" I asked, a little confused.
"Yeah Alvin, he's my best friend" Drake confirmed, chuckling.
Then as the tension in the room thickened I knew this was just the beginning of an unexpected adventure.
