Maya awoke to the wonderful aroma of coffee brewing in her apartment. As she slowly became conscious, the blonde rolled over in bed to find her wife missing.
"Carina?" Danielle mumbled to herself as she buried her face in the pillow in attempt to go back to sleep.
"Buongiorno," Carina said with a shy smile as she peeked inside the doorway to their bedroom. She walked in the room with two mugs in her hand, both full of hot coffee. She set them down on her nightstand, then crawled in bed next to Maya. She pulled the blonde close and wrapped her arms around her beautiful wife, then pressed a kiss onto Maya's cheek. "Ciao bambina."
"Good morning," Maya hummed as she pulled a blanket over them since the apartment had a chill to it. The blonde nuzzled her face into the crook of Carina's neck and embraced her touch for a moment before loosening her grip and laying up.
"I would lay here all day if I could, but I have to get to the station," Maya said while getting out of bed.
Carina looked at her with a smirk before responding, "Maya, look outside."
"Outside?" Maya said with furrowed brows. She walked over to the window and saw that the ground was piled high with a fresh sheet of snow. Everything was covered in a pristine layer of white, including the rooftops, streets, and even the trees were adorned with glistening snowflakes.
"The station... How am I supposed to get to work if I can't drive?" Maya could feel herself getting worked up quickly as she looked out the window. "My team needs me. I'm- I'm the captain. I need to-"
Carina stepped out of bed and walked over to the window. She gently placed her hands on Maya's cheeks while looking her in the eyes. "Maya, it's okay... Relax. Vic and Andy texted you while you were sleeping. They've been at the station since last night and have everything under control, so you get to stay here with me."
"But I should be there, I'm the captain. I'm too far away... What if they need me?"
"Maya, I promise you they will be fine. Trust me... Do you trust me?" Carina said with wide eyes, still holding onto Maya.
"I do," Maya responded while breathing deeply.
"Good. Your team will be fine without you for a day. Okay?" Carina said as she gently kissed Maya's forehead.
"We can't even go anywhere, what are we supposed to do all day?"
"What am I going to do with you?" Carina said with a laugh as she shook her head. "Snow days are fun. Come on, I know a few things."
Carina grabbed Maya's hand and they both got into bed and snuggled up close to each other under the blanket. They turned on the tv across from their bed, and decided to watch The Holiday while they drank their warm coffee. Danielle occasionally looked into Stefania's eyes with a contagious smile, and thought about how lucky she was to have such an amazing woman to love. Carina was her rock.
......
"Okay, just put both of your hands on each side of the pin," Carina said to Maya while looking at the cookie dough that they just made. "And I will help you from there."
Maya put both hands on each side of the rolling pin as Carina told her to do. She attempted to roll the dough herself, but it kept getting stuck on the pin.
"Carina, this is ridiculous. I don't even know how to bake," Maya said as she let go of the pin. "You know I'm not talented with this kind of stuff."
"Here bella, let me help. I want to teach you. My nonna taught me how to make these when I was young."
Carina stood right behind Maya and placed her hands on top of Maya's hands. The brunette helped the blonde roll out the dough, and then twist the cookies into a braid shape. Maya looked behind her shoulder with a smile and couldn't help but to close the gap between her and Carina with a kiss.
"See, you can do anything with that brilliant mind of yours... Queen of the clipboard Maya Bishop," Carina laughed.
Once the cookies came out of the oven, Carina picked one up for Maya to try. She held it up to Maya's mouth, and smiled as she watched her wife take a bite and hum with enjoyment.
"Mmmm," Maya said as she closed her eyes in pure enjoyment. "That is so good. You might be onto something with this whole snow day thing."
"I told you... Are you finally enjoying yourself now?"
"Yes, but I think I should call the station... You know, just to make sure everything is okay," Maya said as she began walking to her phone.
Carina grabbed her hand before she could walk away. "No, no, no. No phone today. They'll call you if they need something. I already told them you're mine for the day."
"Carina!" Maya begged. "Just let me-"
Before Maya could finish her sentence, Carina pressed her lips against the blonde's and took Maya by surprise. "I think we should do a little more of this, and less talking."
......
Carina grabbed a few blankets and sat down on the couch while Maya started a fire in the fireplace. They both had a mug full of fresh hot chocolate and plates with a few cookies that they made earlier. The Christmas tree was lit up in the corner of the room and made the whole apartment smell like fresh pine. It doesn't get much cozier than that, especially when you're with the person you love the most.
Once the fire was blazing, Maya grabbed her mug and sat down on the couch next to Carina. The blonde wrapped her right arm around Carina and rested her head on the brunette's shoulder. Carina turned on the tv so that they could watch another Christmas movie. This time Carina picked It's a Wonderful Life. Between the warm fire, hot chocolate, and each others company, both women were beyond content.
Carina looked down at Maya to see her wife totally at peace, which was very uncommon.
"Maya?" Carina said sweetly with her Italian accent.
"Yeah?" Maya replied as she lifted her head up from Carina's shoulder.
"Do you know how much I love you?"
"Yes," Danielle responded while nodding her head. "But I love you even more."
"I don't think that's possible."
"Let me show you," Maya said softly with a smirk. She set her mug on the coffee table as well as Carina's, then laid herself on top of the brunette and began gently pressing kisses all over Carina's neck.
"Maya!" Carina shouted while laughing.
The blonde touched her forehead to Carina's and smiled as she looked into her wife's eyes. Carina felt her heartbeat begin to speed up as she looked deeply into Maya's eyes. It was these kind of moments that reminded them how much they truly loved each other. Maya closed her eyes and took a breath before attaching her lips to Carina's.
The blonde slowly pulled away from Carina's lips and looked into her eyes with nothing but love. "You know... Maybe a snow day isn't so bad after all."
