Two Worlds Apart [MiChaeng Fanfic]

[Flashback]

It's already 11:00 PM now. The girls have left two hours ago so I'm alone now with Chaeyoung. I tucked her to bed immediately after Nurse Shim checked her vitals. It's been three days since she was brought here in the hospital, and her condition isn't getting any better.

Just earlier this afternoon, she had an injection in the spine. It was the worst sight of my life. She was holding onto my hands and looking at me for comfort and strength while Doctor Song inserted the needle to her spine. She was wincing in pain and crying so much as I shed a tear too because I can't fight my tears either.

Finally, tonight, she's resting already. She did a great job today, I keep telling her that. Lately, she's been sleeping more but eating less. I just keep praying and hoping for her to get better.

She must be sleeping now so I grabbed my sewing materials and the unfinished strawberry sweater I've been making ever since we got here. I've been sewing it in secret, every time she's asleep. It still needs a few more stitches and then it's done and ready to be given to her tomorrow as a Christmas present.

I never knew we'd spend Christmas Eve like this, but I'm just thankful that I still get to spend it with her, at least. I finished the strawberry sweater already and I'm more than happy by the output.

I can already imagine her with it, and she'll look so cute. I'm excited to give this to her tomorrow on Christmas day.

As I was putting away my things and about to go to bed, I hear her calling me.

"Love?" she called out.

I immediately turned around, surprised that she's awake. I hope she didn't catch me putting away the gift.

"Chae!" I sat on the chair beside her bed. "Love, you're awake. Do you need anything?" I caress her head.

She smiled sweetly and said, "You... I need you. Can you sleep with me tonight?"

The bed is just for one person only, and it'd be too small for us to fit.

"I guess I'm tinier now, anyway... So I think we can fit," she said, her eyes pleading.

I kissed her forehead and said, "Okay, love. I'll sleep with you tonight."

I went to the other side of the bed and laid beside her. She turns to face me and I cupped her jaw.

"You've been very brave today, don't you know that?" I told her. "Just keep fighting, okay? The doctors were wrong last time about the three months, they might be wrong again this time. You'll fight, okay?"

She just smiled at me, but I can see the sadness in her eyes.

"Mina, I love you very much," she said as a tear rolled down her cheek. "I love you to death. I'm so glad we met in this life."

I got teary eyed by what she said. I placed my hand on her chest and feel her beating heart. "I'm so happy too, that you're mine. You're my soulmate and my greatest love, Chaeyoung."

She seemed to be happy by what I said. "You know, I keep having this dream... about both of us very in love with each other, but in different universes. Like, there's this one universe wherein I'm not sick. And that we're not artists or public personalities or anything. Just normal people, being in love with each other, in a simple home. We adopted a child and had two dogs. We stayed in love with each other 'til we're old and grey."

I smiled. That sounds like a good world to be in. Growing old with Chaeyoung is such a good dream to have. "Go on," I said.

"And there's this other universe wherein we're both archenemies when we were young, but grew to be very fond of each other then eventually fall in love."

I let out a soft chuckle and said, "I can't ever imagine you as my enemy."

"Yeah, me too. But the point is, it seems like we just naturally fall in love with each other in every universe. It's like we're destined. We're tied upon by fate to meet and love each other. I think it's so special."

My heart flutters and I kiss her lips. It was a passionate and long one, as if I'm breathing in all of her.

I pulled away and said, "It's so nice that we tend to find each other in every universe. I mean, there's billions or trillions of people out there." I touched her cheek. "It's such a pleasure... to be in love with Son Chaeyoung in every universe."

She flashed me a dimply smile and I poke her deep dimple on her right cheek. "It's such a pleasure too, to be madly and crazily in love with Myoui Mina in every universe."

Suddenly, there are fireworks outside the window. We are both surprised by the sound because we're having an intimate moment. I checked the time and it's 12:00 AM, which means it's already Christmas day.

"Merry Christmas, my love," she said.

"Merry Christmas too, my precious," I said. "I love you so much."

"I love you too, to the ends of the universe."

We hugged each other so tight and eventually fell asleep together in each other's arms as we welcome our last Christmas day together.
