As Hawkins cracked open, and hells tongues flickered through the crust, the Upside down suffered.

The hive mind suffered.

The vines twitched a screeched, tendrils grasping at rumbling shards of the landscape, the demodogs took off and ran, knowing the ground could barely hold their weight. The few demogorgans hunkered down and watched as their underlings tormented themselves with the pain.
The Mind Flayer reached out it's dark arms, and stroked the howling land with the sense of being broken. It's power, its mind, and its bodies need somewhere to deliver the extra nutrients that it now subconsciously creates, otherwise existence would be scarce for them.

It needed a host, now Vecna had burnt in the angry fire created by walking meat. Husks of knowledge, possible hosts. Conductors of hunger.

Five of them had entered, three had lit the fire, two had ran and massacred. One had been killed, eaten by the hive. It's blood still lingered fresh in the Flayers thoughts, spiking through the worry of the yet to fall.

Brave blood.

Clouds, stabbed with flickering red, had gathered close to the ground. The demodogs raised their heads and bellowed. The demogorgans displayed their teeth and unfurled their heads. The vines slithered over the fallen bats, the energized ones ripped off the cold wings slowly as they squeezed. The Mind Flayer raised its mighty head as the sea of vines lifted something.

......someone.

A host had been found.

The Flayer reared it's head higher, signally the possibility to the hive it ruled over. As the slimy tendrils wrapped around the limp body, the thin skin told of the bone deep coldness of the body. The layer of brown blood across the body's face and torso. As the vines heaved the body on to a slab of concrete, brown hair fluttered high into the wind, the limbs hanging below the clothed body, the smell of leather and blood adding to the stink of the land. Along with the lingering scent of energy and electricity. Human energy.

The Flayer ordered one of the dogs, with gifted olfactory intelligence, to detect the body. It reared its head towards its master, and told of the clots of the blood. Yet, hidden in the brain, dwelled the smallest amount of energy. A spark of life, though no normal circumstances would be able to heighten it into a possibility of the humans awakening. The Mind Flayer, however, knew it's craft of creating a host out of little. It kept the rotting corpse of Vecna alive, had it not?

The vines slowly dragged off the stiff clothing, and raised the limbs into a cross. Smaller vines supported the head and arms, while the larger one supported the body's weight around the hips. At the base of the tendrils, rested ones capable of transferring nutrients and heat, connected closest to 'heart' of the parasitical weed. These vines traveled into the body through natural holes into the brain, stomach, lungs and heart.

The Great Mind Flayer shifted itself into the very air, to preserve energy, and began its works to bring its new host alive.
But it had a plan.... Knowing the origin of the body, it recognized the potential of once again having control of an other dimension. So, because of this, it made sure the hive would give the humans memories, feelings, and soul (that still lingered in the universe) back to its owner.
