We ran and ran. We were running away from the policeman that caught me stealing.
"Nove slow down! Slow down!" My little sister Namiko shouted.
I picked her up and continued running. We finally lost the cop and hid behind a trashcan in the dark alley we've been sleeping in.
"Hurry up and eat Namiko."
I took out the turkey and bread I stole and handed it to her. She began to make a sandwich and slowly eat it.
"I wanna go home." She said halfway done with the sandwich.
"Namiko you know we can't go home."
She looked like she was about to cry so I pulled her to me and told her to go to sleep. She fell asleep within minutes, leaving me in my thoughts. Our father, Greg, kicked us out about a month ago. Why? I'm really not shre. All i know is, i have to keep my sister alive. I was falling asleep loud crash. I looked at the end of the alley to see a man about 6'3 holding a gun to a homeless man's head. I guess Namiko heard all the commotion, because she screamed as the gun went off.
"Shit." Was all I could say when he came running towards me. I tried to get up but he was too fast and pinned me down.
"I'm sorry! We didn't see anything! Please don't kill us!" I pleaded with him.
His eyes were dark brown almost black. He starred down at me until he looked at Namiko who was ballin' her eyes out. He finally let me go and i scooped up Namiko in my arms. The boy stood up and towered over us. He held his hand out for me to grab. I was hesitant at first but Namiko grabbed his hand and he picked her up. I stood up on my own as he continued to stare at me. To me he was a giant. I was only 5'2 so his 6'3 figure was intimidating.
"Where y'all live?" He asked monotonely
"Obviously nowhere if we're out here." I replied with more attitude than intended.
He starred at me long and hard before walking off with Namiko still in his arms.
"Where do you're think you going with my sister?"
"Your both coming to stay with me."
I paused and looked at the back of his head as he kept walking. Is he crazy? We don't know him and he doesn't know us. Why is he takin us to his house? A lot of questions were running through my mind that i knew wouldn't get answered anytime soon.
"Are you going to stand here or come with me?"
I didn't realize he had came back and was staning in front of me.
"Come on, Nova! He said he has cookies and ice cream for me at home!" Namiko cried out.
"Uhmm... Yeah let's go."
I took Namiko out his arms and started to walk. I was struggling since i was so short and she was almost my height, thanks to my dad's genes.
"Lemme take her."
I handed her back to him hesitantly but i was relieved i didn't have to carry her heavy butt anymore.
"How old is she?" He asked after about 10 minutes of silence.
"She'll be five in October." I said like a proud mother. Which is what i had become to Namiko after our mom passed away. Namiko had fallen asleep and was snuggled closely in his arms. It's weird... I shouldn't trust hun. I don't even know his name. But a little part of me says that I need too.
"What's your name?"
"Kalidas." He answered.
There was a pause then he continuted.
