I ran all the way home and slammed the door shut.

"Dad! Dad we need to get somewhere safe!" I screamed.

"Why what's going on?" dad's voice rang from the kitchen.

"There's someone after me! We have to leave town at once!"

"Oh Violet, don't be silly. You can not run from me."

"What are you..." I stopped mid sentence.

It wasn't my dad. It was Drake standing there with his suit and bow tie looking smug.

"Why do you not just stop running and accept your fate?" he asked.

"Where's my dad?!"

"Oh him. Well, you see he is a little tied up at the moment."

"What did you do to him!?" I yelled in fury, "I swear if you hurt him I'll..."

"You will do what exactly? Kill me?" Drake laughed, "Admit your defeat already."

"I'll never give up!"

"We shall see..."

With that he disappeared from the room into thin air.

...

I climbed into my bed and wept. I didn't even know if my dad was still alive and well. I didn't have a clue as to what to do. Where would Drake hide my dad? It had to be somewhere super secret, but also convenient for himself to get to. Then I remembered what Drake told me the day before Mr.Fitz disappeared. He said something about a lake being near his house. This gave me an idea.

First, I looked up the nearest lake near the school. It took hours to even find the right. It was called "Misty Lake". Not a bad name as far as lake names go. I quickly printed a map and stayed up all night studying it. The trip on bike would take one hour counting the stops for bathroom and food.

Inside the backpack I filled was an apple, the map, a flashlight, a swiss army knife, a notebook for important clues, and a picture of my dad for good luck.

...

The journey would be long and difficult, but I was willing to go the distance. He was all I had left in this world. I cycled until I decided to stop at a nearby gas station and refresh myself.

Inside was a mini-mart, but strangely no one around. I looked through the aisles one by one, but oddly nothing seemed out of place. There was no one behind the counter either, then there was a high pitched voice that came out of nowhere.

"Help! Someone please help me!"

It sounded like a little girl crying out for help, and I knew what to do. The voice was coming from ladies room, and I rushed inside hastily to find... nothing. There wasn't even any stalls or sinks, just a one tall mirror. It stood attached to the back wall, and it made me feel very uneasy. I felt as if someone was pushing my body began to slowly get closer and closer to it, before something unexplainable happened.

A large, tough man's hand reached out from the other side, and voices started to ghostly chant my name. I shakily grasped the hand and it pulled me into the mirror.

...

I gasped for air as I fell to floor. I gazed at the new room which I had entered. It was so dark I couldn't see where I was going. There was a bright white light coming towards me. The light took the shape of a tall old man.

"Violet Kessler... who would've thought?" said a slightly familiar voice.

"Who's there?" I asked trembling, "Where am I?"

"Don't tell me you have forgotten your favorite science teacher already?" the man chuckled.

"Mr.Fitz!? Is that really you!?" I screamed with joy.

He grinned from ear to ear and hugged him.

"Are you okay?" I asked.

"Well if you call being dead okay, then yes I'm okay!" he laughed, "But don't you worry. I've gone to brighter pastures and so have John and Tracy. You should see it Violet. It's really quite beautiful."

"Is-is my dad there?" I bit my lip.

"Not that I know of, but listen to me Violet. You can beat him I know it. Just know if you win or lose either way we'll be here to welcome you after it's all said and done."

Tears flooded my eyes as Mr.Fitz began to fade out into the light.

...

The room was now a ladies room once more and I scrambled to my feet. I took a quick look back at the mirror before leaving the gas station and hopping onto my bike again. The encounter with Mr.Fitz gave me a reason to keep going, and now I was going to save my dad even if I die trying. He was my salvation from the crazy world I lived in. Drake was so set on me being his bride but I wasn't going to give in so easily to him. Maybe outsmarting him would be the right approach? I stopped every ten minutes to check the map, because unfortunately fog was covering up my view of the roads. I already ate my apple as I was getting close to the lake. I rode my bike a little bit faster than before because I knew I was getting close and then...

Splash!

I had rode my bike all the way into the lake! My clothes were soaking wet and dripping water. I was sopped and my shoes squeaked as I got up out of the lake and there it was. The manor Drake told me about. Very Victorian and old fashioned. I slowly approached the house shivering with anticipation.
