At lunch the next day, Drake and I figured out who the other two students were, Tracy and John.
"Hello, Violet." John said blankly.
"Hey, Violet!" shrieked Tracy.
Tracy ran up to me and gave me a huge hug. Drake watched John closely, as John pulled out a table and four chairs from the back of the cafeteria for us to sit on.
"Hey I found us some seats." John said sitting down at one of the chairs.
"Thanks John." I said smiling.
Tracy sat next to John and Drake sat next to me, and we talked for hours about how we were the last students also Drake and John's trip to the lake.
"We went fishing and swimming in the lake." Drake said, "We both got along well."
"That's nice that you guys are getting to know each other." I beamed.
I was pleased that the boys were doing okay, but Tracy pointed out one thing that changed the way I felt about it.
"Did you catch the game last night, John?" Tracy asked.
"No, I did not." John said simply then ate a ham sandwich he got out of his backpack.
"That's not like you to miss a game, John." Tracy inquired, "Is something wrong?"
"I am fine." John said.
Tracy and I watched as John ate his ham sandwich. This certainly wasn't right, because everyone knew that John was a vegetarian.
...
"He just sat there eating it!" I explained to dad after school.
"That is strange, I'll give you that. Have you spoken to his parents about any of this?" dad asked me.
Dad had set himself down on the couch, because he didn't feel well. So, he ordered a Hawaiian pizza for dinner that night. He then coughed sorely and looked at me.
"All you have to do Violet,is ask his parents and all will be explained."
"No, I already asked his parents and they had no clue whatsoever about it." I replied.
Dad pondered about that then kissed my forehead and patted his head. That was his signal that he had no idea what I was supposed to do. I decided that if I wanted answers I was going to have to dig deeper.
...
I sat in bedroom that same night, and looked for something to help me think. My room was basically a walk into a library. It was full of biographies, adventures, mysteries, and fantasies waiting to be explored. I always loved my room, because it was my sanctuary. At night when I was little, my mom used to read to me every night before I went to sleep. Now that she's gone, I'd still continue to read before bed every night as a tribute to her. I got out a fresh notebook and began to write down some clues to this mystery, just like my favorite sleuth, Nancy Drew. I wrote down everything that happened since Christmas in order of events. Then, it all started to make sense. Everything started happening specifically after Drake arrived so that could only mean one thing. Someone was trying to mess with Drake, but who?
...
"So you think someone is sabotaging you and me?" Drake asked surprised.
"Yes, maybe we could figure out who it is and stop whatever they are planning!" I said excitedly.
Drake coughed and looked at me with a crooked smile.
"Let's not worry about that, because there really must not be a sabotager. What if it was just natural causes like Mr. Fitz said." he assured.
"I don't think everyone would be sick at the same time, and that long too. The whole school out sick for a week? It just doesn't make any sense at all."
"Maybe it will in time. How about we just chat for our class time today? How would you like that?" he asked smiling nervously.
The bell rang and there was no teacher in sight. I started to get nervous.
"Where's Mr. Fitz? He should be here by now." I said shaking.
"Don't worry my love... I mean Violet. Since Mr. Fitz is not here, we can talk and do all that we want. Does that not sound fun?"
"No, it's not fun anymore. I need to get to the bottom of this right now!"
"Calm down Violet, it is okay."
"No, it's not! I'm calling my dad! I'm going home!" I screamed rushing out of the room."No Violet, wait!"
...
I was so scared of this school, and whoever was doing this needed to be stooped. I steamed down the hallway and wasn't going to be stopped easily. On my way to the office, Tracy ran up to me. She was huffing in and out of breath, because she had rushed to me so quickly.
"Violet, where are you going?" Tracy asked non-emotionally.
"What do you care?" I snapped, "I just need to go homw, where things are normal."
"Violet you can't go home yet, it's the beginning of the school day."
"Why are you talking like that?" I asked now concerned.
"Talking like what, Violet?" Tracy asked me again in her blank tone.
"Okay, you're starting to freak me out. I'll call you later."
Tracy then grabbed hold of my arm tightly, but I was stronger and got free of her hold.
"Please don't go, violet."
There was no way I was staying any longer. I ran straight into the office, and it was baren. I looked around the fancy new office for a phone, and there it was. I dialed my dad's number and waited for him to pick up. Nothing, just a blank silence on the other side. What happened to my dad? Is something a miss other than everything else going on in this odd situation?! I checked behind the phone and followed the cord but it did not go that far back, and it made much more sense why my dad was not answering. It was because the phone cord had been cut into pieces.
