March 22
"Jeremy give that back!" Brielle shouted as she chased Jeremy around the lobby of the Nederlander Theatre. They had been rehearsing for two months now, and for the last month of rehearsals, they were rehearsing at the theater. Today was their move-in day and Brielle had been trying to vlog.
"You have to stay in the moment! This is your first time moving into a Broadway theater," Jeremy protested.
"And my job happens to revolve around sharing this kind of stuff on the internet."
"I don't care!"
"Then you also won't care when I do this." Jeremy grunted as Brielle hopped onto his back and grinned in triumph. She reached over his shoulder and tried to take her camera back.
"Nice try," Jeremy said as he grabbed Brielle's arms and hoisted her over his shoulder.
"Jer, stop, I'm going to flash everyone!"
"Fine." Jeremy grabbed Brielle and flipped him over his shoulder so that he was now carrying her bridal style in his arms.
"You're mean," Brielle whined.
"You know you look adorable when you pout."
Ben walked behind the two and laughed. "You guys are so cute," he said. Brielle stuck her tongue out at Ben and then hid her face in Jeremy's chest. Ben grinned. "Point made."
"Jeremy let go of Bri, we're going to see our dressing room," Laurie said, running to grab Brielle's hand.
"Before you see the stage?" Jeremy asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Oh, I wanna see the stage!" Brielle exclaimed. "Take me, Jer. Ben can you video?" Jeremy shot a smug look at Laurie and walked towards the theater doors, Brielle still in his arms. Ben took the camera from Jeremy and started filming everyone's reactions. As soon as Brielle saw the stage she gasped and jumped out of Jeremy's arms, sprinting to get to the stage. She tried to push herself up onto it from the floor but realized she was too short. Jeremy laughed and put his arms around the girl's tiny waist, lifting her up and briefly worrying about how light and skinny she was getting. Brielle took no notice of Jeremy's concern and immediately jumped up and ran across the large stage. She went to the corner and started doing Clara's variation from the Nutcracker while the boys clapped and cheered her on.
Jeremy watched with a smile as Brielle hummed the tune as she danced, and Alex Wong, who had trained with the American Ballet Theatre, soon caught on, singing the melody to accompany her. Jeremy was entranced by Brielle's dancing. He had seen videos and he had seen her doing choreography for the show, but since he wasn't in dance rehearsals with the other newsies like Brielle, he hadn't gotten to see her spur-of-the-moment variation performances before. It was amazing how she was able to do all of the steps beautifully, even while wearing her delicate 4-inch heels. Brielle tried to kick these heels off when it was time for the manège. Alex held out the last note as she struggled with the straps, but continued as she finally got them off and tossed them to the side. The cast laughed but quickly stopped when they saw her start the circle of jumps and turns around the perimeter of the stage. Soon Brielle completed her final step and finished, dramatically curtsying as the cast applauded her. Brielle giggled, not expecting a reaction. She gave a comic bow, picked up her shoes, and sat down on the edge of the stage right where Jeremy was standing.
"You never fail to impress me," Jeremy said, shaking his head.
"That's my job," Brielle said with a grin. She struggled to put her shoes on but Jeremy stopped her.
