Chapter Twenty Four

I woke up this morning and got ready for the day, Dustin called and asked if I could pick him up because he didn't feel like biking to the mall and of course I said yes. How could you ever say no to Dustin. I drove off to the Henderson residence and honked my horn signaling that I was here and a couple minutes later the curly headed brunette came running out the door with his backpack on his back. He was wearing some light blue shirt that had cats on it and he had on green and yellow hat that had a computer logo on it that had '85 in the computer screen logo and then it had the word camp above it and then know where under it. It was an adorable hat.

He opened up the passenger seat door and got in and right away I leaned over and gave him a hug so tight that I could practically feel his bones crushing "I missed you too y/n, let's go I have to see the other Harrington." And with that we drove off to the Starcourt mall. I loved it, all the bright colors and all the bright neon lights was something that I adored. It was our pop of color in this neutral colored town. The mall like normal was crowded with kids, teens, and parents. I held Dustin's hand as we pushed through people to get to Scoops muttering sorrys as we bumped and pushed people.

We finally got to Scoops and Robin was serving a couple so we waited in line behind them. When it was our turn we got to the counter "Hi!" Me and Dustin said in unison which caused Robin to look at us like we were insane "Hi.." she said as she looked between us "I'm Dustin!" He leaned forward a little bit on his heels and smiled "I'm Robin." She said as she did the same "Is he here?" Dustin question "Is who here?" She replied and right as she finished her sentence Steve came flying out the backroom door.

  "Henderson!" Steve said while pointing at Dustin "Harrington!" Dustin yelled back while laughing. He's only been gone a month yet it feels like it was forever. "You got the job!" He continued on while pointing at Steve "I got the job!" Steve started to pretend to play a trumpet in a celebration type of way. I looked over at Robin and she was rolling her eyes. Steve and the group say all the time that me and Robin could be sisters because we act that same way. We both have the same snarky sarcasm and comments but when you actually get to know us we aren't that bad. I went passed the two boys making sure to snatch Steve's sailor hat and made my way behind the counter and stood next to Robin while putting the hat on.

"Your boyfriend would lose his mind if he saw you standing here with that on your head." I turned to Robin with confusion on my face because I didn't get what she meant. Did she mean that he would be laughing or would be pissed. "He would make fun of you so hard." She isn't wrong, he probably would. She's actually very judgmental towards him, any slight thing he does that makes me upset she's quick to threaten to beat his ass. She said that she hasn't liked him since he first came here a year ago. Which is completely understandable, he was a total asshole to anyone and everyone when he got here.

"So how many kids are you friends with?" She looked at Steve and his face got red and he got quiet for a moment. He then cleared his throat and offered to make me and Dustin the banana boat things that I love. I could literally eat them all day so of course I said yes. I walked back around the counter and put Steve's hat back onto his head and I dragged Dustin over to a booth. A few minutes later Steve and Robin walked over to us and put our boats in front of us. Me and Dustin instantly dug in while Steve sat down and Robin walked away.

Dustin started talking about camp and his girlfriend he met there. Her name is Suzie and she sounds super sweet and Dustin said that she is like super hot. He sounded totally in awe. It's kinda weird to see how everyone is growing up, over the past two years I've grown close to all the kids and seeing them dating people and getting ready to go into highschool is really making me feel proud and emotional at the same time.

"So where are the other knuckleheads?" Steve asked I looked down because I knew what had happened. They all ditched Dustin when he got home. "They ditched me." Dustin sounded mad well not totally mad but slightly upset "No" Steve was shocked "My first day back." I'm definitely going to be having a talk with all of them when I get home I swear. Dustin then started talking about when they ditched, I guess he was trying to contact Suzie and she wasn't answering so they all thought he was lying and left and then Mike and El left way before that. Mike has been leaving the group behind all the time to go hang out with El and normally I don't say much about it because yes it's weird but he's growing up and that's what happens sometimes but now that he hurt Dustin's feelings and left him on his first day back just to go make out with El it's not sliding with me.
