I clapped my hands, watching as Cole hit another bullseye. He was extremely talented at archery, he had been doing it from the age of 12, now we were 16 he was a pro. Me on the other hand, my talents stood in karate and boxing. Cole high-fived me as he handed the bow and arrow off to the next kid. "You are way too good at that." I laughed. "I know, I know." Cole laughed, fake bowing at me. I smiled and started to walk with him.
"What book ya got?" I asked him.
"Well I was gonna read Battleground but I left it in my cabin so I need to go grab it." Cole told me, starting to veer off the path and towards his cabin. "Alright, I'll meet you there!" I called to him. Me and Cole had a thing of getting our activities over with and then meeting up and reading together. It was a good way of getting away from everyone and relaxing. We hadn't had much peace since the word of us being the outcome of infidelity got out. Me and Cole were playing tag with Will around the house, Will had pushed me to get away and I and accidentally knocked over Elizabeth's favourite vase, breaking it. She had screamed at me about me being a 'hex on the family' 'some shitty outcome of her husband's cheating habits'. Turns out the window had been open and some people walking outside had overheard. Word got around pretty quick.
As I made my way down to the hanging tree I sat down against the trunk and opened my book. I loved Stephen king, I had read his book 'The Shining' at least 50 times since it had been released last year. I probably would of read it more if it wasn't for Nick stealing it constantly. He could obviously buy his own but he didn't want to. He was supposed to be the perfect Sunnysider, next sheriff of police. He wouldn't be caught dead reading anything by Stephen King.
I was just about to move on to the third chapter when I heard chanting. "For the Witch's final breath, she found a way to cheat her death. By cutting off her wicked hand, she kept her grip upon our land! She reached from beyond the grave, to make good men her evil slaves! She'll take your blood, take your head, she'll follow you until you're dead!" I furrowed my brows and peered behind the tree.
I groaned as I saw who the chanting was coming from. My little brother Will and his ridiculous friends. I narrowed my eyes as I saw they were dragging someone with them. "Ziggy Berman?" I muttered to myself. I had only spoken to her a couple times, despite sharing a cabin with her. She seemed alright, maybe slightly snappy and sarcastic at times but it was understandable, the heat had been harsh recently, enough to make anyone irritable.
I watched as they tied rope around the redhead's wrists and threw her to the floor. I watched in disgust and shock as Will lifted her slightly off the floor. "No, stop it! Stop it! Stop!" Ziggy screamed. I could see blood dripping from her nose as she wrestled with the rope. "Let me down you shits! Let me down!" She demanded.
Shiela ripped a ten buck note from the girl's pocket. "Well, well. What do we have here?" Shiela circled Ziggy, glaring at her. "Goddamn theif." Will cut in, I rolled my eyes at him. Why'd he have to try so hard to impress Sheila? She was such a bitch. "No, no. She's not a theif. She's possessed, by the witch!" Shiela stood in front of Ziggy now, eyes narrowed. "The only way to explain her psycho behaviour!" The black haired girl spat. "Fuck you!" Ziggy yelled, a loud thud could be heard as her elbows connected with Shiela's nose.
I stifled a laugh, watching Shiela steady herself, looking up at Ziggy, blood now dripping from her nose as well. "Guess we're even now." Ziggy grinned. "You do know what they did to Sarah Fier, right? They hanged her. From this very tree." Shiela spoke, getting in the redhead's face. "But she'd have died forever if you did what you always do to witches..." Shiela circled the other girl once more before finishing her sentence. "you burn them."
She moved towards Will quickly. "Give me your lighter!" She ordered. I jumped as I felt a hand on my shoulder. I turned to see Cole. I put a finger up to my mouth to quiet him before pointing to what was going on, on the other side of the tree. "What?" Will questioned the dark haired girl. "Give it to me!" She shouted. Shiela snatched the lighter from Will's hand and turned back to Ziggy.
"Now hold her legs!" She told her goons.
"Seriously, Shiela?" One girl asked
"Do it!" Sheila raised her voice again, flicking the lighter open. I watched as the girl and Will stepped forward and held Ziggy's legs still. "No! No! No! Stop it! Stop! Stop! Stop!" She shrieked, trying to fight their grip. "Shut up, you witch!" Shiela hissed. "Shiela, you made your point-" The second of her goons spoke up."Don't! Don't!" Ziggy begged, eyes wide with fear as a flame flickered from the lighter. Me and Cole watched, tense, wondering if Sheila would actually go so far as to burn the girl. "Sheila, it was only ten bucks!" Will pointed out from the floor. "Are we really gonna do this?" One of the girls questioned, glancing around at the empty space. "No! No! No!" Ziggy tried to move away from the flame as Sheila held it up to her arm.
The redhead girl screamed as the fire came in contact with her skin. I jumped up and hit the lighter from Shiela's arm. It clattered to the floor, thankfully closing so no flames would escape to the grass. "If it isn't the hex!" Shiela glared bullets into me. "What the fuck is wrong with you?" Cole demanded. "Oh and the Jinx." She gave Cole a disgusted look. I gritted my teeth at the nicknames.
"You've gone too fucking far! Let her down!" I spat. "Or what? You gonna go cry to your mommy? Well I guess you'd have to find her first." Sheila taunted. I balled up my fist and punched Shiela in the nose. She yelled and fell to the floor. "Fucking stay there." Cole spat. We all jumped at the sound of a whistle. "Shit! Will, your brother!" One of the girls exclaimed.
I let out a sigh as I saw Nick and counsellor Kurt. "Fuck." Cole mumbled.
