Sadie's POV -
-
"Now, remember what I told you two! I'll be back in the late morning of Monday!" Sadie willed her mother to hurry up and leave for her business trip already.
All her other 4 siblings were out doing their own things with their own friends, so she and Paige would have the whole house to themselves.
Speaking of, this had come as a total surprise. Her parents would be out and away for a whole weekend, as it was Friday. Her mother was the last to leave. Paige had already checked with her mom, and she happily got to extend her stay.
Sadie grinned as her mom vanished from the house, and turned to Paige, who was beside her, probably still taking in her massive house.
"What should we do first?" Sadie made sure that the car in the driveway was gone before she impulsively tucked a pale, hay colored strand of hair out of her friend's face.
"Surprise me."
Sadie slightly smiled at that, and pulled her upstairs to her room.
"Have you ever done a marker tattoo before?"
"You mean where we...?"
"Yes! Where we draw something on the other person's arm! Obviously with markers of course." As she said the words, she pulled out her collections of markers from a drawer.
"They aren't really 'tattoos' though." Paige observed, smuggling a laugh, and a smile.
Sadie nodded, agreeing.
She selected a red marker from amongst all the others, and motioned for Paige to take a seat on her desk chair.
Paige held out her arm as Sadie sat on the floor, and they found themselves glancing into each other's eyes for a moment until Paige broke the silence.
"What are you going to draw?"
"Well... uh... I was..." she didn't even know why she had opened her mouth, because before she had known what she was doing, she had drawn a heart with the red marker.
Paige's blue eyes widened.
"Sorry. I... you can always wash it off if you don't like it. Actually, I can—"
"No, no. It's fine. I like it."
Was it just her, or was Paige once again blushing? Sadie thought she was seeing a distortion. Maybe her eyes were playing tricks on her. There was no way Paige liked her in the way she had been dreaming about.
"Maybe we should move on to something else?" Sadie quickly put the markers away, wanting to move on before things could get awkward between them. She didn't want Paige to think she was slowly losing her mind.
After some very quick thinking, she had an idea.
-
"Are you sure we can do this? I mean... won't we get in trouble?" Paige asked, quite worriedly.
Sadie focused on mixing together the ingredients.
"Yeah, of course we can! My parents won't care. Not if we clean up after. And they aren't even home. Anyways, want a turn?"
Paige came up beside her, and took the mixing spoon from her.
"Why do you even want to mix the batter with a spoon instead of a blender? Blenders are way easier." she questioned.
"Because hands-on learning is a million times better, Paige." Sadie almost playfully rolled her eyes. "Besides, cupcakes are meant to be messy. In a way."
Paige wasn't even listening to her answer, as she was too busy staring at something.
"Um, hello? Earth to Paige! What has you gawking?"
Her friend blinked a few times before replying, "Sorry. I... was admiring your... eyes? Yeah, that was what I was doing."
"Your eyes are literally the same color as mine."
"I know. Yours just has a sparkle... and it's like someone could... get lost in them..."
"That's a... nice observation..."
The red haired teen tried her hardest not to let her face show red at the unexpected compliment.
