Judd hadn't said much since his little embarrassed outburst, instead he kept his gaze on the road and would occasionally look over to me in the passenger seat. The awkward silence had taken over quickly.
"Soooo, you come round here often?" I say jokingly, pressing a finger to the car window and trying to point at the scenery that was passing us by. I knew instantly by the route he was taking where we were going. He had caught on that I knew and I saw in the reflection a smile tug at his lips, a sort of satisfied expression relaxing on his face.
"No more small talk." He replied, changing the hand he had on the steering wheel calmly.
"So back to silence then?" I turned my head to make eye contact and watched as his gaze flickered to meet mine.Judd took a brief moment to reply as he proceeded to turn into the narrow country road , it was essentially a shortcut to get to where he was taking us but it made the ride three times bumpier. "It's better than listening to you try to make conversation with me."
"So what? I'm expected to sit in silence when you're taking me to the spot." He knew what I meant by that and scoffed, I tried to hide the smile that was breaking out on my lips but failed and let the beam spread out on my face.
"Remind me to piss you off next time we're with company."
"Why?"
"I don't want anyone else to see that smile, it's mine." He puts emphasis on the possessiveness but didn't take his eyes off the road, instead I shuffled in my seat as I tried to play off how flustered I was becoming but also because the ride was getting bumpy and was starting to hurt sitting in my seat.
"Uh well actually it's m-"
"Oh for fucks sake Glaser." He leans back in his seat and lightly bangs the back of his head on the headrest. I let out a small laugh and see him roll his eyes in my peripheral vision. The car made a small bump as the surface underneath went from dirt road to gravel, my head lifted to look at where we were and almost like a tap opening the memories started flooding back.
"So despite everything I got invited to the party tomorrow." I say, pressing a hand under my chin in frustration as I meant against Judd's shoulder. The sun was setting on the horizon as we were sat on the roof of his car- I had no idea how we had ended up there but it was fairly comfortable nevertheless.
"Don't go." Judd snaps, looking at me directly as he did so.
"Why? I thought I could bust out my signature dance move." I try to lighten the mood unsuccessfully and even tried to add a little dance move with my arms.
"Don't go, please." His tone remained stern but his eyes were soft, I knew he was trying it look out for me but I also knew I was going to be fine and if anything out of the ordinary did happen- I wouldn't hesitate to contact him.
"God babe don't worry, I'll be fine." I say, thoughtlessly shuffling around to get comfier which was quite difficult because every time either of us would move the whole car would either shake or make a loud noise that wasn't very reassuring. He took a deep breath and turned his head towards the scenery in front of us, I took the opportunity to quickly lean in and kiss his cheek- the speed at which I did so made the car shake and creak, causing me to almost slip off the roof.
Judd instantly grabbed my arm, making sure I wouldn't fall off or hurt myself. I couldn't help but start laughing at how alarmed he had been when I had started to slip, lifting my head I shot him a cheesy grin and he quickly looked around before pulling me close and wrapping his arm around my waist securely and pressing a kiss to my neck."I've been holding the door open for a good minute now." Judd said, making me turn my head and bat my eyes a couple of times to push my thoughts to the back of my head.
"S-Sorry."
"What's wrong?" He asked, grabbing my hand and putting it in his pocket as we walked to a bench that overlooked the freshly cut wheat fields that rolled out in front of us. It wasn't as adventurous as the car roof, but at least it was stable and somewhat comfy.
"Why here out of all places?"
"I come here often to think, when you left for New York I would come and sit righttttt," He began moving his hand to try to point out a spot and finally landed on a patch of grass just a little further from where he had parked the car, "There, and remember that evening when you refused to take my advice and then I had to pick you up because you got drunk and started shouting at a guy."
"He deserved it." I replied, taking a seat next to him on the bench and placing my legs comfortably on top of his, hugging my arms around one of his.
"What did he do to deserve it?" He asked in return, leaning his head on top of mine comfortably.
"Basicallyyyy he told me to tell a girl to shut up but I didn't know the context so I got angry at him for trying to get me to gang up on her.""No further questions will be asked, all I know is he wasn't too happy." Judd took his hand out of his pocket and I began fiddling with his fingers, tracing the veins and creases on them with mine.
"Neither was I." My voice came out softer than I wanted it to, I could feel his head shift a little to get more comfortable.
"You look hot when you're angry." He stated, making me turn to try and get a better look at him, our faces not too far apart as he also turns to look at my reaction. A small smirk pulled at his lips as he saw me raise an unimpressed eyebrow.
"Don't try and butter me up Birch, you'll piss me off." I retaliated, leaning in a little closer tauntingly.
"Perfect." He spoke softly as he too closed the distance between us."Wow guys fancy bumping into you two, didn't think I'd find you here." A familiar voice erupted from behind us, making us immediately pulled away and turn around simultaneously.
"Julian?!"
