"Do we really have to move? Like what's the point, it's my senior year why can't I just finish it out?" I groan picking up one of the boxes in my room
My dad looks up from the box he's taping to respond. "I'm sorry Adaline, but we have no choice. The landlord is raising the rent and we just can't afford to stay here anymore. We need to find a place we can actually afford, and unfortunately, that means moving to my home town, Hawkins."
"This is so stupid. Indiana is like 1000 hours away from Cali. How am I supposed to keep in contact with my friends."
He sighs as he lifts the last box before replying "I don't know Ada, I really don't, but there's nothing I can do about it anymore. I will try my hardest to make this move as smooth as possible for you and your sister, but you have to try too." He walks out of the house before I have a chance to respond.
I walk around the house making sure we didn't forget anything and grab the cat. I take in the rooms one last time thinking of all memories they held and wonder how my dad could just leave the house my mom picked out before she left.
As I walk out of our townhouse for the last time, I turn around and admire it. I had never realised the true beauty of it until it got taken away. The baby blue planks that our house is covered in, the 8 old, rotting windows on the front of the house, the arched door, and the 10 steps that I walked up and down each day for the past 17 years of my life. I get pulled out of my sorrow by my dad honking the horn telling me that it was time to go.
I drag my feet walking to the car hoping it would make my father change his mind, but it did nothing. I groan as I plop down in my seat mad that my plan didn't work how I wanted it to. "Adaline stop with the pity party. I'm not changing my mind. I think this will be good for the both of you. Your sister is over the moon for this, why can't you?"
"Well I dunno dad, maybe because mom picked out this house and now we're just leaving it. Amber doesn't even remember mom so of course she wouldn't care."
"That's what this is about? Your mom? She left all three of us 5 years ago, it's time to move on. I'm sorry kiddo but Hawkins will be the best choice for you, and you can always go to college here if it's as bad as you think it is."
Amber comes running out the house nearly tripping over her blanket before hopping into the back seat of the car. The leather groans as she situates herself, leaning over to turn on the music. Her favorite song 'Girls just wanna have fun' starts blaring as I close my eyes, already annoyed with her.
"This gonna be a long ass car ride." I mumble to myself before dozing off.

Hey guys! I rewrote this chapter after nearly 3 years because I just got back into my Billy Hargrove phase. I'm not sure why I ever got out of it TBH but I'm hoping the writing is better. Chapters won't release too often due to the fact that I have school but I'm going to try my best. Anyway let me know what you think!
