Susan presented her very delicious looking dishes to us as we took our seats. My gosh everything smelled amazing that I swear I was almost was picked up by the mere aroma of the food, I was that hungry.

We dug in (and I pigged out) and damn, was this food just wow. Way to go Mrs. H.

"So Luna... how do you know our son Rodrick?" Mrs. Heffley looked directly at me, smiling as she  cut her baby's food into smaller bites. Silverware clinking, soft chewing and small talk quiet down as everyone begins to focus on me. I take multiple sips of my grape juice to wash down my food. Way to put me on blast Mrs. H.

"Uh, I had him in a couple classes throughout the years." I cleared my throat as I cut into my pot roast. If it weren't so damn delicious I would be annoyed that she was asking personal questions as if this wasn't awkward enough. I shoveled another spoonful of mashed potatoes and gravy into my mouth so I wouldn't say anything stupid, like how annoying his son is. But by the looks of it, I didn't have to say anything as Rodrick was getting a stern look by Mr. H for throwing peas at his younger brother, Greg.

"Oh how nice, do you guy, oh what do you kids call it. Netflix and chill?" I nearly shot out my mash potatoes and gravy through my nose.

What did this woman say???

"N...no!" I said almost too quickly as my cheeks turned red. My gosh, who told this woman this phrase.

I looked at Rodrick to see his reaction which just as shocked as mine, apparently.

"Mom..." even her middle son, Greg,  shot her a glare, rolling his eyes at her attempt of being a 'hip' mom.

"What? Isn't that what you kids call it? Don't you Netflix and chill with your friend from down the street. You go watch movies with her sometimes. And you chill."  she said while smiling at us and feeding her little toddler a spoonful of food.

I am flabbergasted. I can feel my eyebrows touch my hairline.

"Well I think it'll be good for you two to give it a try, you guys probably run into each other quite often." Susan said with a smile.

My gosh this poor woman. I know parents aren't aware of this generations lingo or trends, but damn Mrs. H is completely clueless. She just told the table that her son goes to hook up with this chick from down the street. I saw Rodrick sink into his chair.

"Uh no, besides school Rodrick and I don't cross paths very often. We have different schedules and different priorities." I grunt out while taking a look at Rodrick, subtly saying her son isn't contributing very much into this project, or school as of matter a fact. He glared back, catching on to my snide at him.

"Oh well maybe you two should try to chill and Netflix sometime sweetie. I don't know, maybe that'll be the perfect icebreaker!" My mother chimes in to my horror.

"Mom you don't know what you're saying." I whisper to her, trying to stop this conversation completely.

"Yeah I think that's a fantastic idea, you kids can become such good friends!" Mrs. Heffley beams at the both of us.

Oh boy. Hate to break it to you but I don't think so.

"...Yeah maybe." I mumble, stuffing my mouth with a huge spoonful of food. I just hope they stop talking to me, I simply cannot be tortured anymore tonight.

"Well you're welcomed in our home whenever you'd like honey. You just let us know if you ever need anything or would like to swing by." Mrs. H insisted, while shoving another spoonful to her baby.

"Thanks." Was all I could really say. And finally the attention came off us. I went back to my delicious food and let the adults go back to their boring conversations. I played with my peas when I felt a slight nudge on my thigh. I turned left and looked to see where it came from. It was not who I was expecting.
