Something New... (TanZen story)

Tanjiro stared at the paper on the counter. He'd just noticed it.

*Earlier*

"Be careful on your way home tonight." Mitsuri said as Tanjiro hung up his apron.

"I will be." He said, leaving. He brought up the recording on his phone and sighed, continuong to walk home.

(Timeskip)

"I'm back." Tanjiro said, walking inside. He took his shoes off and looked around a bit. The lights were all off.

"Zenitsu? Are you awake?" Tanjiro asked, walking to his room. Not here. The other? Not there either. Tanjiro checked the bathroom, the closet, the living room, and the kitchen.

That's when he saw the note.

He picked it up and sat down, reading it.

I'm sorry. I don't want you to get hurt again. I went back to Kaigaku. I'll be okay.

I always am....

Tanjiro wiped his eyes and thought with his head in his hands, tapping his foot on the floor a bit. He changed, and got his shoes back on, walking out of the building.

(Meanwhile)

Zenitsu knocked on the door, staring at the floor a bit, fiddling with his clothes. He was gonna die. He was sure of it.

The door unlocked and opened, Kaigaku looking out and seeing him. He opened the door more and stood there with his hands on the frame.

"I'm sorry." Zenitsu whispered.

Kaigaku nodded slowly and brought Zenitsu into the apartment, closing the door.

Zenitsu instantly broke down in tears. "I'm sorry I left. I really am. I thought that something bad was gonna happen but I made it so much worse." He mumbled out.

Kaigaku pulled Zenitsu into a hug.

Zenitsu clung to him, burrying his face into his shoulder.

"I provided you a place to live and be safe at." Kaigalu said.

"I know." Zenitsu said.

"I let you go out and have a job, time to yourself...."

"I know...."

"And, " Kaigaku said, holding Zenitsu's face in his hands and making him make eye contact. "I love you even when you do stupid things. I don't want to hurt you, but sometimes it's the only way to have you listen."

Zenitsu nodded a bit, still crying.

Kaigaku let him go. "Are your bruises healed?"

A nod.

"Good. Go get cleaned up and go to bed. You'll be staying in my room tonight too." Kaigaku said, smiling.

Zenitsu nodded and got a shower, changing into night clothes. He'd found that the window had been fixed already, all of the glass cleaned up. The fire extinguisher gone.

Zenitsu was half asleep as soon as he hit the pillow. He curled up a bit, hugging it slightly

After a bit of time, he felt arms wrap around him.

"Kai...?" Zenitsu mumbled, still half asleep.

"Hm?"

"I love you."
