The first thing that Cassie heard was the sound of beeping. Opening her eyes, Cassie recognized the white walls that surrounded her. Examining her arms, she noticed a bandage was wrapped from where the glass had impaled her.

"Cassie!" Arms engulfed her, Cassie recognized the false blonde hair in front of her.

"Erica, please." She patted her step moms back, trying to get air. She let out a sheepish 'sorry', before smiling at the girl.

"I'm so glad your ok!" She tucked some of Cassie's brown hair behind her ear, then moved her attention somewhere next to her.

Looking, she noticed a "sleeping" Jasper, who had pulled a chair up next to her. Looking at her mom, she shrugged. "He hasn't left your side since he's got here." Erica said, a soft look in her eyes as she stared at the young man.

"What happened?" Cassie asked, pretending to forget, though she knows that painful memory will probably never ware off.

"You don't remember? You went with the Cullens to get Bella back, but you both fell and went through a window." Erica explained. Cassie nodded, accepting that as her backstory. It was fitting, but god, did they have to make her seem like such a clutz?

Cassie nodded, leaning back into the bed. "Sorry." She mumbled.

"For what?"

"Leaving you guys. And probably scaring you half to death."

"Oh." Erica rubbed her arm, trying to comfort her. "Don't worry about that. All that matters is your ok."

Erica excused herself into the hall, saying something about Daniel messing up the paper work. Waiting until the door closed, Jasper sprung up, wrapping his arms around the injured girl.

"I'm sorry." He muttered into her hair. If Jasper was able to, he knew tears would be falling right now. "I'm so so sorry."

Cassie hugged him back, finding comfort in his scent. "Don't apologize. You're the reason I'm alive."

After they separated, Jasper leaned back down into his seat. "What happened to James?" She asked.

"Dead." He answered bluntly. "He got what he deserved."

Cassie nodded. She never thought she'd find comfort in another being's death, but something about that monster being gone made her think the world was a better place.

"I think." Jasper started, after a few moments of silence. "I think it's best if I stay away from you."

Cassie stopped for a moment, before sending him a glare. "What? No!"

"Cass, all of this happened because of me....."

"No, this happened because of me! And my bad decision making skills!" Cassie argued. "Don't blame yourself. You warned me, and I chose to ignore that warning."
