Chapter 1: Into the Game

I woke up to my alarm the following morning. Rose and I were planning on getting together in-game at 10:30 AM. It was only 8:00 though so I went through my morning routine. I sort of coasted through my routine this morning. All I could think about was that I was finally going to be able to be myself and that I would be able to feel comfortable with myself for once in my life. I couldn't even describe the amount of euphoria I was getting just thinking about it.

I got in the shower and started washing, for once I was able to take a normal shower without actively despising myself because of how lost in thought I was. Normally I would enter the shower and completely avoid looking down, just so that I could avoid looking at the main indicator of my body's biological sex. At one point I smacked my elbow on the wall of the shower breaking me out of my thoughts. Immediately I crash back into reality, starting to notice all the small things that someone normally wouldn't think of that send my dysphoria spiraling. The water that trickles past the hair on my body that my parents would never let me shave off. The bulkiness of muscle on my arms and legs that accumulated from work my parents make me do. The small things I keep noticing only stop when I reassure myself that I'll be able to leave them behind today. I speed through the rest of the shower in a minute or two and get out as fast as I can to put some comfortable clothes on.

I step into the kitchen to make myself some breakfast, nothing special, just some eggs, avocado, and tomato. Before starting to make it, though, I decided it would be a good idea to set up some food for when I need to hop offline and eat something before getting back online. After I finish setting up everything, I sit down and eat while writing a note to my parents for if they come home earlier than expected and they find me online. Finally, at around 10 AM, I finished my food and got a call from Rose. Answering the phone, Rose immediately starts talking.

"Hey, how are you doing this morning?"

"Good, I just finished breakfast."

"Cool, I was just gonna let you know that I was gonna get on a little earlier than we originally planned 'cause I have nothing else to do right now."

I finished putting away my dishes and started heading to my room.

"Really? That's funny, I was going to do the same thing."

"Oh, well that's convenient."

"Oh yeah, I wanted to ask this. How long do you think it would take me to set up my account and stuff?"

"Oh, I didn't think about that, It took me about half an hour to fully set up everything before I even got into the game. That's ok though, I'm really close to getting enough money for my first ship so I should be able to do that while you set up your account."

"Damn, I didn't think it would take that long but ok, I'll send you a friend request as soon as I'm done."

"Alright cool, talk to you then"

"Yeah, see ya."

Getting to my room, I put my phone on the charger, turn on my PC, and start setting up the AxonKit. My PC is set up and all I have to do is get linked up to the Kit. I put the helmet on, lie down in bed, and turn it on. As I hear the whir of my PC's fans and feel the slight vibrations coming from the helmet, I slowly start to feel my consciousness fade out.

When I come back to consciousness I see I'm in a room that looks somewhat like a hospital room, just more industrial. I stand up, and as soon as I do I feel different. Based on how the room looks, I feel a few inches shorter. In real life, I was a little under six feet, and now I feel like maybe I'm five feet seven inches. On top of that, the body I'm in is super androgynous. There are no outstanding features, nothing feminine or masculine at all. The weirdest thing about this is that I have no genitalia, nothing at all, just smooth skin where anything would be.
