Oh the times that I cried
I know you were there
Holding me tight
...
Cancer sucks. Watching someone love lose themselves fighting so hard. And hey yeah maybe some win the battle, but not all. So when the hair starts to fall off, your hopes also start to die. And when the skin starts to fade so does all your faith. But hey some live right?
What's the percentage of living from cancer? Or better question stage 4, what's the percentage? She wouldn't know. How long do they have left? Yet just another question She wouldn't know. All She did know is the likelihood of survival is slim. But hey some can live through it.
She didn't. Anna Ellis. Mother, sister, friend. That's what the stone read in front of her. 2 years she has been long gone. Her mother had been gone for 2 years now. The saying it gets easier was far from correct. The coping and adjusting get easier. But the healing, it was still hell.
Maybe it was worse now that Hopper was gone too. The only man who was anywhere near a father to her. And he understood how she felt. But now he was gone too. And that was just as heart throbbing as this stupid stone.
She smiled and gently placed a white rose on the ground. " Happy birthday mom" the girl's hair blew around, light caramel waves cascading around her shoulder. And so the girl sat elegantly speaking to the stone as if it were her mom. She put down the happy birthday card signed by Felicity.
She went on and on about how Dustin had accidentally ruined her art project. Somehow the canvas was ripped right in the center of it. And even though she was upset about it she laughed it off. Dustin became the brother she never got to have. After Hopper's death, Felicity was able to choose where she would go.
Joyce of course offered to take Felicity with them. And even though it broke the girl's heart to decline and not go with El who was practically her sister, she couldn't possibly leave her mother behind. Even if all she was was this stone in front of her.
Joyce of course called often checking in on her. El tells her all about her friends there and how happy she was. And apart of Felicity started to regret not going. But at least she had Dustin. Dustin's mom was way too sweet. She took Felicity in within a heartbeat. Mainly cause Anna and her were friends in high school.
" So basically Dustin ruined my last canvas. And now I have no more" Felicity laughed and behind her was a huge sigh. " I told you I would get you more Fel" Dustin groaned. The girl chuckled and nodded. " yeah yeah but you still ruined it"
" it was an accident alright" Felicity smirked hearing that answer before. She looked back at the headstone and sighed. She ran a finger over the word mother and sniffed a bit.
" You okay Fel?" Dustin said gently taking a seat beside her. She looked down letting a few tears fall. " No not really" she slightly laughed doing her best to keep it together. Dustin wrapped an arm around her and rested his head on her shoulder. She rested her head on his and hugged him into her side.
" you make things better though Dusty" she sniffed and he smiled. " You still owe me a new canvas." They both laughed and wiped away any fallen tears. Felicity stood and gently kissed the stone before walking away.
And in her hand was yet another white rose. She gazed at the stones as she walked by, reading all the names of lost ones. Oh, how she hated having to now show up here with two roses. At first, it was always just one, for her mother. But now she carries two. Wishing she never had to.
She stopped reaching her destination. She smiled gently and kneeled to place the rose down. "Hey Hopper" Dustin from behind Felicity waved to the stone sadly. " We all miss you like always." she felt another tear run down her cheek. " See you later hop" She stood once again brushing off bits of dead grass.
" We should probably head to school now," Felicity said clearing her throat. " I have a lot of planning to do for the spring dance." Felicity smiled walking toward Dustin wrapping an arm around him as they walked.
" So how is the planning going." Felicity smiled brightly and skipped in front of Dustin walking backward happily to tell him all about the dance she got to plan. " Oh it's gonna be so beautiful Dusty, I set up the flowers last night and I chose the music this morning, and oh oh-"
" Alright, Fel chill it's a dance." Dustin laughed as she looked like she was gonna burst from the excitement. " I'm just so excited to go, And I've never got to plan something like this before so I just know it's gonna be perfect. You're coming right?"
Dustin grinned slightly but Felicity could tell he was holding back on speaking. " Dustin," She said sternly. " The thing is Eddie thinks dances are like stupid and-"
" Who cares what Eddie Munson thinks" Felicity rolled her eyes and walked fast to the car and got in. " Fel I would go but We are gonna play D and D."
" You always play D and D, you can't just take a night off and come for a bit to the dance I've been working on so hard." She started the car not looking at him. " But I wouldn't have anyone to go with, the guys won't be there and I-"
"Just forget it, Dustin, it's not a big deal anyway It's just a stupid dance." The car ride was silent the rest of the way. She couldn't force him to go. And even though she was hopeful he would cave in, she knew it was no use.
She heard a lot of people talking about the dance, so she knew a lot would show. And while that was really good, it was also just bad for her. Even though she was a senior this year, her friends consisted of Dustin, Mike, Max, and Lucas. Freshman. And Robin too which was nice. She worked with Steve and Robin at the mall and now at the movie shop. While apart of it was her fault for being so shy and quiet, she didn't much like others in her school. And on top of that, this was her first year of in-person school.
She had always done homeschool when her mom was still alive. But now that she is living with Dustin and his mom, She was put into Hawkins high. And she disliked it, so she walked through the halls with her head down, going unnoticed. And honestly, she liked it this way.
