I can't save us
...
The air was thick and felt suffocating. The end was near, whatever that meant. The feeling reminded her of sitting in the hospital waiting for the results, praying cancer that plagued her mother was gone. That news clearly never came.
The stillness in everyone made her feel even more uneasy. Dustin was never this quiet she noted. He hadn't been this quiet since the day his mother told him she was going to be living with them. That day was very vivid to her. She had lost her mother less than a year and then lost her only father figure soon after.
And so she felt shut down. Dustin stared at the girl awkwardly as she walked through the house for the first few weeks. It's not like she never spoke to him. But the only time she ever actually spoke to the boy with busy hair was when their life was on the line. Fighting off whatever monster had come from the upside down.
But now, here she was walking around his house. Sleeping only a few doors down from his. So oddly enough, he felt like he knew nothing about the girl. But that quickly changed and soon, they both became inseparable. Dustin surely helped the girl heal from all the death around her. He made a promise to help her when all goes bad that day at Hopper's funeral.
Her thoughts were interrupted when a cold hand linked with hers. Eddie knew she was inside her own head, clearly getting lost. So he pulled her out of the troubling thoughts. She looked up from the fading pink dress covered in the dirt now and into his soft brown eyes. She blinked a few times still clearing away her mind, and soon got lost in him. She melted into his side clinging to every peaceful moment they had. Before all hell breaks loose.
" Relax Lis, everything will be okay." His lips brushed against her ear. She was the only one hearing his words. And for some reason, she wanted to break down. Cry for hours. Not even sure why. She had already felt like she lost something. Maybe it was just her thoughts eating her alive. But holding him tight to her, oddly felt like he was already gone.
But just as tears were about to spill, a soft thumping yanked her back to reality. His heart was beating rapidly, just for the girl in a dirty pink dress. Eddie slightly tensed when the girl in his arms suddenly wrapped her arms completely around him, doing whatever it took to be as close as possible to him.
He relaxed instantly and gave in to her completely. Moving his arm around to her waist and pulled her onto his lap. Where she moved her arms around his neck and buried her head into his neck as well. Breathing him in completely.
" Don't let go" She sighed into his ear and he squeezed the girl tighter into him. " Wasn't going to"
Dustin watched the pair. When he first saw them together he had no clue how. They were completely opposite. Felicity was a girl who dressed in pinks and yellows. Happily dancing around her room creating dress after dress. Eddie would be found playing d and d for hours on end. And clearly thrived with rock music. And Dustin was certain he had never seen pink or yellow on the boy.
But here they were holding each other, comforting each other. He smiled knowing they belonged together. Even though Eddie was sure the girl was perfect and clearly out of his league, Dustin saw it differently. He thought the pair were made for each other. Because in this dark time, somehow, someway, they found love.
...
The plain rang in her ears. It would work, it had to. This time, as Felicity fell through the upside down she felt different. She had herself wondering if she would fall back out of it, or maybe this was her last few moments.
