Lauren
————————————————————-'You will be mine, Lauren Everhart. I'm coming for you."
Anxiety overwhelmed me and I pressed my hands against my ears, trying to block out his voice. I could practically see the patronizing look in Adamas's purple eyes, the condescending smirk on his face stroking the flames of my rage.
"Shut the fuck up!" I screamed, stumbling back against the wall.
"Lauren, what is it?" Synth was instantly by my side, her hand on my shoulder. "Are you hurt?"
"My head," I grunted, clutching my ears. "I can hear him. All of them. So many voices."
This shit had to stop. I might not be able to control the fact that I'm stuck aboard an alien spaceship in the hands of a psychotic alien overlord, but I damn well should be able to control my own body. It didn't matter what my powers were or where they came from, they were mine now.
When I was trapped under Adamas, I'd been able to summon my powers. Maybe there was a way to shut them off. Reaching inward, I pictured the silver string from before. It stood out; a sliver of light in the darkness. My fingers grasped the silver thread of light in my mind.
Be quiet!
To my astonishment, the each voice within the deafening chorus gradually stopped until finally there was blissful silence. "That's better."
But it wasn't over yet. Just as I was about to relax, the unmistakable holler of an alarm was trumpeting just beyond the door of the motionless elevator.
The Emperor still knew where we were. If we didn't think of something soon, it would only be a matter of time before they caught us. My eyes darted around the dark elevator as I hurried to think of a new plan. Maybe we try and get the elevator moving again. The only problem was, that I had no idea how to work this thing. We had no weapons, so fighting our way out was not an option.
"Lauren, would you mind giving me a boost please?"
My brows knit together as I shot Synth a puzzled look. She was a dark silhouette moving along the walls of the elevator. "What are you doing?"
"Getting us a way out of here," she responded her hands fumbling with something in the corner of the lift. "There is an escape hatch on the top of every lift on the ship. Boost me up, please."
Hope sparked within my chest and positioned myself against the wall, I interlocked my fingers in front of me. I nodded, bracing my back against the solid surface. "Ready."
Synth put her hands on my shoulders, providing her the balance she needed to plant her boot in my hands. Pushing her up off the ground, I was surprised to find that she was even lighter than I'd anticipated. A few moments passed as her fingers fumbled through the dark before an audible 'click' resounded.
"Got it," she announced triumphantly, stepping off my hands.
Several red lights flickered on, bathing the dark chamber in an ominous crimson color before a black ladder dropped from the ceiling, hitting the floor with a rattle.
