Stay

Everyone has left the cafeteria after that fight. Oliver was the only one left and he was looking out the window peacefully. His coffee was steaming and his eyes held some sort of warmth. Somehow he was still calm after what happened between Doris and Ruf. I went and stood next to him.

"There we have it, everyone fought with each other." Oliver sighed

"Do they fight often?" I asked

"It's never been this bad."

"It seems like Yakov doesn't like you."

"He's not the only one." His facial expression didn't change

"How does this not make you sad?" I questioned

"I don't know... Going off the description in books it doesn't." He smiled slightly

"You're smiling again." At this point I was extremely confused

"Can't I? We have plenty of food, the sun's shining!"

"You're comrades got in a fight and that doesn't effect you at all."

"No need to scold me." He looked away from the window

"Sorry, I'm just trying to understand you." I replied

"Why?" He asked

"Because..." I can't remember why I approached him

"...I don't get it." He said after hesitating

"Is it hard for you to feel what others feel?"

"You could say that. Doris says I don't feel negative emotions so I don't understand fully. I disagreed and started reading books, the world is simple like me."

"So in a way you found peace?" I smiled

"Sometimes I feel sadness, but it doesn't feel like real sadness. Like I'm sad for a bit but just forget about it."

Oliver then got lost in thought. His thumb on his chin like he was thinking deeply. Here I am just standing here clueless and confused as heck.

"Maybe it's not sadness, all I know is at least my chest doesn't hurt or feel broken. I should consider this topic carefully." He mumbled

"You're strange but interesting Oliver."

"You're the first person to tell me this. I must go write the daily report and help Helga with laundry." He smiled broadly and left

All I could think about is this could be the reason why Oliver seems like a hypocrite. He truly doesn't understand how or why people feel certain ways. I decided to look for somewhere private to try and decipher Wolfgang's note, I must find out about his past.

I decided to go to the boys dormitory. But if course when I walked in the king of glory was sitting on his bed. For some reason he's always in the bedroom. This time he is cleaning his precious revolvers.

"Do you need something?" Yakov asked

"Am I interrupting?" Honestly I felt nervous

"You are actually. I was cleaning my revolvers but you could be hiding poisonous gas behind your back."

"That's ridiculous, you act like I would do anything to you."

"But you would do anything to the others." He looked at me suspiciously

"I'm never going to win am I?" I sighed

"It's not my fault that you follow me everywhere."

"I don't follow you, you're somehow just always in the bedroom."

"You obviously come in here for me." He smiled slightly

"Why would you think that?"

"Because you should know by now that if you want to find me I'm always in here."

"This is why you bother me!" I blushed and turned away from him walking to the door

"You should just say you love me back Nemo!" He laughed as I left the room

After that, I went to the library and looked for books to perhaps help decipher the note. I grabbed a few books but when I was leaving Oliver told me I had to go help around.

Night has fallen around us. Everyone by now had already fallen asleep. Yakov kept tossing and turning like he couldn't sleep. But I laid in my bed and had this bad feeling.

Not a feeling like an attack or something. My brain has been running wild and I'm scared of what might happen when I do fall asleep. Let's be honest, I shouldn't be scared of such a small thing when we're at war.

I closed my eyes and listened to the sounds around me trying to calm down. My head was in pain and stomach doing flips. This was just the beginning of a terrible night.

Swear dropped off my face as I sat up in shock. I looked around as I seen everyone asleep. But my eyes finally looked into eyes with dark circles under them.

"Are you okay?" He whispered

"Just a bad dream I guess." I shivered as I remember what it was about

"Care to talk about it?"

"You and the others actually tortured me, all because Wagner told you to."

"You think I would ever let them beat you." He chuckled and sat on my bed

"Why aren't you asleep?" I asked

"I always get bad dreams, but they aren't dreams they're just the past." He shrugged

"What about the past?"

"You'll find out someday." His eyes sparkled as the moonlight shined on them

"You must be tired."

"There's a reason why I always have these eye bags."

"Then go sleep you idiot." I rolled my eyes

"You're the one who's oblivious to everything." He stood up and was about to get on his bed

"Can you stay?" I mumbled

"You'll have to speak up Nemo."

"Can you stay Yakov?"

"Of course."

He smiled while the moonlight shined on him perfectly. He grabbed a chair and sat next to my bed. I felt terrible that he wouldn't be fully comfortable. Yakov grabbed my hand and we both closed our eyes.
